A few weeks ago we were approached to review one of the American Girl Movies and my Toddler fell in love with Samantha an American Girl Holiday; so it was just great when we were asked to check out Felicity: An American Girl Adventure. This movie was released on DVD February 15, 2011 and is available through Amazon.com
or your favorite retailer.
At first I was a bit skeptical, my toddler has her heart set on Samantha, and I wasn’t too sure on how she would be with a totally different style of movie and I have to admit, I wasn’t too sure either.. It was hard to top Samantha an American Girl Holiday.
Felicity an American Girl Adventure arrived just in time for our Family Movie night. The Tween checked the back of the Felicity movie and said “Mom, you have to see this, this movie plays in the year 1775 in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia.” He informed me that in school they are currently learning about that era and are learning about the Loyalist and Patriots. He was all excited and wanted to watch the movie. Honestly, I wasn’t even gonna ask him to watch a “girly” movie, but he proofed me wrong.. he WANTED to watch it right away.
Felicity: An American Girl Adventurecenters around 10 year old Felicity in 1775 Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia. Felicity is a tomboy, would rather spend time with the horses, however her mother wishes her to become a “gentlewoman” (wife, mother, housekeeper). Upon taking her “gentlewoman lessons” she meets Annabelle and Elizabeth Cole. The Coles are loyalists from England living in the colonies. Elizabeth and Felicity become friends however their friendship is tested when Elizabeths father is sent to prison for showing loyalty to the king. The other part of the story is that Felicity befriends an abused horse owned by Jiggy Nye. Felicity ends up befriending the horse, training the horse, unintentionally stealing her, only to have her grandfather purchase the horse for her in the end. Felicity starts out as a self centered 10 year old but she learns to put others first, she rescues her father’s apprentice Ben from the bounty hunters, she visits Jiggy Nye in prison to give him food and a blanket and lastly she takes care of her family while her mother is ill. By the end of the movie Felicity has changed from a child to a “gentlewoman” as her mother calls her.
Now, after watching this movie for the third time, and many history hours later, we all agreed that this is a wonderful, no AWESOME!! Movie for the entire family to watch. Boys and Girls alike will like this movie for it’s history content and especially like my Tween, who is currently learning that part of history in school will enjoy it the most. To hear what others are telling about that time in history and to put it in a movie, is just wonderful.
This is a well made movie, this will be another one of our favorite movies. It isn’t Samantha an American Holiday, that’s for sure… BUT this movie is just as good and I’m impressed with the entire American Girl Series that I have seen so far. Wonderful family movie, defiantly worth 5 stars and then some… you should check it out…. I know you will love it.
Warner Bros provided with the movie above for my honest review, no other compensation was / will be given and all opinions are 100% my own.
