Shadowing is one of my favorite things to do on any of my layouts, it will give it a different dimension every time you do it, no matter what color you use to ink the edge it always looks fancy.
My favorite is and always has been edging with brown ink; it always makes the pictures look “older” and just a great texture.
Did you know how simple it is to edge your pictures?? Every time I show it to one of my friends or co-workers they get hooked and I always hear” That was simple, that’s it ?”
So I wanted to share this simple yet dramatic technique with all of you, so you can create wonderful scrapbook layouts that look like you spend hours slaving over.
All you need is :
A picture, background card stock or printed scrapbook paper, ink pad ( color of choice) and a paper cutter or scissor.
- Cut your picture to desired size, cut your card-stock or patterned paper a bit larger than your picture, you want this to be like a frame behind your picture ( we call it matting the picture).
- Glue, tape or however you like to attach your picture to the card stock
- Take your ink pad, I love to use these Dew Drop Ink Pads, especially the Gingerbread color makes this old timy look..love it; and run it across the edge of your card stock paper… repeat as often as you like till you get the desired look… try to use different stroke techniques like one from front to back, top to bottom, all that will give you a different look…. It’s kind of hard to describe, take a look at some of my pictures here
That’s it.. soo simple… and you didn’t think you could do that.. check out the picture on top of my Toddler’s 1st B-day, I inked the edges of the picture and also some edges of the papers… gives the layout a totally different look then just plane without the ink… doesn’t it…??
