Scrapbook Friday – Distress your papers

February 4, 2011 By Melanie Roberts 2 Comments

You know I love to scrapbook and money and time sometimes can be tight; however I still like to create fancy looking layouts, that make people think.. wow she spend hours to create those. Did you know that with a little distress technique you can create just that ?

My mother in law created this layout last week and I just had to show you guys how to make it. It was so simple yet, doesn’t it look beautiful?

You won’t believe how simple this layout was, the swirly thingy is cut with a Cricut Die Cutting Machine, but even if you don’t have one, you could cut it out on your own with a template online, I like to google scrapbook design and find templates and use them on  my pages. Other than that she used 3 pages one solid 12×12 and 2 patterned paper that again, she cut out with a template that she created ( you can buy a sheet of paper with the shape and we use them to trace and make a template). Add some ribbon and flowers…. your layout is done….. So simple…

Let me show you how to distress the pages…

You need

  • 1 cardstock page
  • 1 scissor
  • 1 ink pad ( I prefer brown)
How to distress your page:
  • Take your scissor and keep the sharpe edge on the edge of the paper, slide up and down to get the rough look on your paper, if it tears along the line is fine, too.. it will make it look “old”
  • fold some corners in and edge with scissor, too.. just get creative.
  • Use the ink pad and edge the edges like I showed you in this post here
You are done.. now wasn’t that simple, now it’s time to assemble your page… voila… beautiful, and cheap…..

Your mother in law is so talented. The page is delightful and thanks for explaining how it was all put together. I believe simple lay outs are always the best, just have to keep the creative juices flowing. Thank you for this lovely idea.
