Back to school with a full tummy and simple snack ideas #SmartSnack #Cbias

It’s almost time for my 3 munchkins to head back to school; each year I try to come up with simple Breakfast and Lunch as well as Snack Ideas that I can provide for the kids to have a happy tummy all day long. My only challenge is… I Have a teen starting 11th grade, a Teen starting 7th grade and a  princes starting pre-K. Most of the time it’s a HUGE challenge to find breakfast items or even snack items that all three kids will enjoy and actually eat.

I set off to Walmart the other day to see what I can find and what everyone will eat. The Teen was with me and we roamed Walmart looking for Snacks; we found Candy bars… NOOO… We found Cereal bars… Well… I don’t care for those either…. we decided to check out the fruit aisle; every kid loves Fruit, right?

#SmartSnack 17

I found a bunch of different fruit packs, cups and caned fruit; we decided to grab a few of the DelMonte Fruit Cups, they had a large variety and I knew what fruit each of the kids would eat… in the cart they went. I also wanted to make something special, to make the Fruit Cup “WOW” a bit… So I also bought Whip Cream to “Decorate” our fruit Cup and the more I thought about it, the more ideas I got. One idea that would work beautifully is making “German Pancakes” for the kids on their first day, they are simple and don’t require supervision while I get the kids ready that morning. So, we grabbed all the things we needed for the Pancakes and then started to look around for some room decorations, since we are still working on the Princess room and are down to decorating the room.

Well, after all our money was spend at Walmart, we headed home to make a special “trial” run breakfast for the kids. They love German Pancakes (some people call them Dutch Babies, I was told) so we had some time in our busy schedule, they fit right in, plus I would be able to test my “Fruit cups” out to see if all the kids would like them.

This is what you need for the German Pancakes:

  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 6 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

I also added Cinnamon and Vanilla Extract, I eyeball this on your taste…

This is how to make them *So Simple*

  1. Preheat oven to 375 then mix all the “WET” ingredients in your baking dish, no need to make a mess in another dish or bowl.

2.       Add all  the “DRY” ingredients and mix well

3.      Put in oven for 30 minutes or until all crazy looking and golden brown (the funny thing, they never ever look the same, my kids can’t wait to see the crazy look each time)

Top with your favorite DelMonte fruit Cup and Whip Cream and enjoy……..The best part, the batter can be prepared the night before and when you wake up, toss the baking dish into the oven and it will bake while you get all the kids ready; Breakfast will be HOT and ready when you are!!

My teens also enjoy their fruit cup frozen, toss them in the freezer for a day or so and they turn into fruit Pops, super refreshing on a HOT school day as a snack or even if you send them in the lunch box frozen, they will turn “Slushy” by the time kids have lunch, giving them an extra special ice treat. My Princess loves it.

Now I gave you some ideas on what to dish up for snack once school gets back this Fall, what ideas do you have? I would love to hear them.

We really enjoyed the DelMonte Fruit Cups and if you want to find out more about the Selection or info about the product, be sure to check out DelMonte on the Web follow on Facebook or Twitter to stay up to date and to even catch a coupon here and there. Sounds YUMMY!!! Soooo love the idea about being able to mix it up the night before, too!

If your little ones can’t open the fruit cups, please do their teachers a favor and open up the cup and transfer it to a small container. Lunch is usually only 30 minutes, and those poor teachers spend so much time opening up all kinds of packages for their students that they hardly get to eat themselves.

Thanks Cat for the reminder about helping the teachers out,a lot of parents always overlook that when they find “easy” snack or lunch ideas.. that is a very good point…

Ooh, your recipe for German pancakes looks so good and so simple to make, we’ll have to try this weekend. I also love the idea of freezing the fruit cups, hadn’t thought of that, what a great alternative to sugary ice pops!

Intimidate you?? OMG, they are the most simplest thing to make… I usually pan fry them and make them very thin, but with the same recipe… everyone LOVES them.. but the oven version is sooo much quicker, and less “fatty”…. same taste…:0)…. You have to let me know how you liked them

Good idea! I think I’d like to try with those frozen strawberries that you get in the store. That and some whipped cream sounds wonderful to me.

I am having the hardest time trying to find their peaches in strawbery syrup. I found it once in a store and most I can’t find it in yet/ My grandson loed that. He doesn’t like it in the gel like jello type but the syrup he was crazy about.
