I’m a clean freak, that’s no secret. If I have a spare minute you will see me cleaning, mopping, sanitizing and so on. I can not sit still and hate, really hate ( shh.. don’t tell the toddler that I used a bad word.. she is very strict right now about words….).
I thought it would be fun to come up with a list of 10 things that I just HAVE to have while cleaning the house. I would love to hear what would be on your list and why?
-
A Broom: With two dogs and 3 kids my house always has hair, dirt and grass in the corners, under the couch and just everywhere.. oh and then the occasional dust bunny that freed itself and runs for it’s life across the floor… the best man for the job is the broom. Always handy, quick to grab and ready to work when needed. I don’t have to mess with cords all day…. this is a must have in my house.
-
Dust Pan: well this kind of goes hand in hand with the big Broom… you got to have something to pick up the dust bunny that tried to run away… lol… not in my house the Cleaning police will catch ya, dare ya to run and hide under another couch…lol
-
MOP: My all time favorite thing is the LIBMAN FREEDOM SPRAY MOP
, have you seen it yet? It’s awesome, you can put in your own cleaning solution and have it ready and waiting for you; it will be ready when called to duty and will get the job done in no time. With a toddler who always like to make a mess, this Mop comes in handy and is a very god friend in our house.
-
Vinegar: Yup… I use a lot of Vinegar to clean, deodorize and sanitize. vinegar will get the job done and for about $.50 a bottle can’t be beat. I know some people may say “What about the smell?”. Honestly it will last a few minutes and will disappear, it will actually remove any odor in our house from cooking to cats to anything you have an odor from. I love this stuff and it works wonders on stains, lime build up and faucets that are only dripping and not running anymore. Vinegar will get the job done in no time and hardly any scrubbing required

Disinfectant wipes: You know the ones I’m talking about weather it be the Lysol wipes or Clorox wipes. I love them ALL. They are the best thing since sliced bread. I use them ALL the time; I hand my Teen a can and let him clean his bathroom, if the toddler makes a mess on the counter, I grab a wipe, after dinner we wipe down the counters. They are awesome, handy and make me feel a lot better about keeping the house clean. I know I’m crazy, I even have some in my purse in a little Ziploc baggie incase we stop at a public restroom so I can clean the seat.. crazy, yup.. that’s me

-
Pledge Dusters: OMG.. these things are the next best thing to the Disinfectant wipes and the Sliced bread thingy. Our house for some reason gets very dusty, but these things are AWESOEM. I can hand one to the toddler and she wipes across the counter, shelves, TV anywhere in the house and it will trap the hair, dust and anything else that landed on the cabinets. I love it and can’t live without it. It’s a must have item in our house to keep the daily dust under control.
-
Newspaper: This will work wonders when cleaning the windows; No Smear no fuzzy stuff left behind, all you have is clean, streak free windows and you probly have a ton of newspaper laying around from your Sunday Coupon clipping. Put them to good use.. They are AWESOME to clean with
. -
Kool Aid- Lemon flavor: You probly are wondering what in the world you would do with Kool-Aid in your cleaning kit, well… to be honest, this is a great Dishwasher and washer cleaner. Just be sure to use the small packs the ones without the sugar. The only one that will work is the Lemon flavor and it will clean your dishwasher/ washer and will leave it sparkling clean; the lemon in the pack will do the trick and get writ of the lime build up, any dirt that is left behind. It’s a lot cheaper then the Dishwasher cleaner and works even better. you should check it out the next time your Dishwasher or washer is in need of a cleaning
. -
Microfiber Cloth: These things are the BEST. I use them for everything, I have blue ones for the bathroom, green for the kitchen and I even use them for drying my hair. Anything you need to wipe down from the kitchen table to the counter, use them. They will pick up any spills and will eliminate a lot of paper towels in your house and will do the same job, even better. Toss in the wash and re-use. We love them and couldn’t live without them anymore.
-
Vacuum: Of course I love my Vacuum more than anything, the only problem I have, I haven’t found one that I love 100%. We use our Vacuum about 2-3 a day to catch those dust bunnies that think they can hide from the broom..lol and we usually have to replace it once a year. I’m getting tiered of spending a lot of $$ on a vacuum that will not last longer than a year. So, we kind of have a hate love relationship with Vacuums, but they are a MUST and I love it, BUT… why can’t I find one that I love 100% ?
Boy, this was tough, I have so many more products that I like to use, but this is a basic list.. simple yet so helpful and will get the job done. that’s all that matters. What’s in your cleaning kit?
*I was not asked nor compensated for this post.. just thought it would be fun to share*

Good post! Like you, most of these are must haves for me too. I also include baking soda for scouring and deodorizing. You said you can’t find a vacuum you love. I highly recommend you try a Dyson. I’ve had mine for almost 10 years and aboslutely will not go with another brand ever…and I’ve tried them all. It’s powerful, easy to use, and does what you paid it to do. DIY Disinfecting wipes ideas – buy inexpensive baby wipes and add your own disinfecting cleaner or rubbing alcohol. Cheaper than the others in most cases. Or just use an old baby wipe container, add fabric cloths or soft terry wash cloths, sized to fit, add your own cleanser and/or alcohol and Wallah!…reusuable disinfecting wipes that are handy and on the cheap.

Hi Ginger… love the idea about the reusable wipes.. that’s something I will defiantly look into.. and thanks about the Dyson, I’ve heard a lot of good things about them, I’m just too chicken to try them… Mhhh I maybe need to bite the bullet and just get one….

I normally sweep and mop the floors on Monday plus run the vacuum but didn’t have the energy today. But I managed to wipe down the counters, and door knobs with my Lysol wipes.

I really need to look into the microfiber cloths. We go through paper towels like mad! I’d really like to save money and the enviroment by cutting back on them.
