Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace Jr.–Teaching kids about Money!

You’ve heard me talk about how to save money and that it is very important to teach your little ones on how to handle money; I think children should learn the importance about money at an early age and they will be able to follow that importance throughout their life.

I know, people always say “Money isn’t all”. Well, let’s be honest, money is important. You can’t live without it and if you have more debt than your income you are having a tough time as well; so why not teach your little ones some importance about Do’s and don’ts about money and hopefully they will go into the right direction later on.

I’ve told you about Dave Ramsey’s wonderful Book Series the other day, make sure to check it out if you haven’t;

Today I would like to introduce you to one of Dave Ramsey’s biggest Tool; he always tells people in his seminar about a Spending Envelope, a Savings Envelope and a Give envelope, why would this Children’s addition be any different?

This kit is geared towards helping the little ones learn how to handle money; it is geared for ages 3 through 12 and I still think my Teen would be perfectly fine using this technique.

This Financial Peace Jr. kit is the perfect companion to the Books that I mention a few days ago; this kit comes with Laminated worksheets that can be written on and wiped off, have magnets on the back so you can attach them to the refrigerator;

One Worksheet is for Saving to Buy with Cash and it has a place to put your goal; if you little one would like to buy a new Video Game, add a picture of that Video game and fill in what you are saving for, how much it cost; your weekly savings; number of weeks to save; purchase date and current amount saved.

This worksheet will keep your little one on track and focused on a goal; not only will it teach them to save money, but also help them be patient and work hard towards their goal. I like that idea.

The second worksheet is the Commission Worksheet; it lists the work that needs to be done for each day and how much you are getting paid for the chore and at the end you total it out; there is also a spot for fines; if you miss your chores or whatever the agreement is, these fines will be deducted from your Earnings.

I love this Commission sheet, it clearly shows the little ones the responsibilities they have and what the consequences are if you fail to follow your rules/ chores. I like that; there are always consequences in life, let your little ones learn that every thing they do will have a consequence, whether it be a good one or a punishment, but every action has a response.

Besides the two worksheets there are also the 3 envelopes, they are un and colorful and close with a Velcro button, making it easy to divide your money into SAVE, SPEND, GIVE. Love that idea and it is clearly written on the envelope and the little ones can see their progress and where their money is going; great idea..

There is also a colorful calculator in the kit, my Toddler thought it was hers and had a fit for hours; this calculator will help your little ones learn the basic math skills like how to divide your money into the SAVE, SPEND, GIVE categories and then some;

In the kit included are also three magnets that you can put anywhere you like so your little one will be reminded of the the main idea of this Financial Peace Set, SAVE, SPEND and GIVE; also included is a coin change purse, that is too cute and a great idea to keep all that change that the little one will be earning now.

The instructional Manual is very simple and very good demonstrated on how the Financial Peace Jr. should work, along with tips and tricks about saving money and working for your money; there is also a Audio CD included for Mom & dad, which is very informative.

What a wonderful kit; we are super excited to start all three of our munchkins on the Financial Peace University through the summer and hope they will learn some great money skills that they can follow for a lifetime.

This kit is truly wonderful, it is a tool, use it and be your little ones guide; only you can teach your little one how to handle their budget, start early and it is just like second nature once you let them go into the big world.

For more information make sure to check out Junior’s page, Dave Ramsey’s Web page or to purchase you can go to Amazon.com or Dave Ramsey’s Store and the Financial Peace Jr. retails for $19.99
