I’m a Popsicle Summer Fun #Ambassador; I was compensated for this post, but all opinions and ideas are 100% my own and not influenced by anyone or anything #PopsicleMom.
It has been raining way too much in Central Florida this Summer Break and my kids are slowly getting really bored with the video games and TV, I had to come up with something to keep them entertained.
We had some extra Popsicle sticks laying around so I grabbed a few craft foam pieces that we had laying around and markers and let the kids have fun. We quickly came up with a game for the Princess to prepare for Kindergarten. Check out below how simple it can be to teach the ABC and the sight words that the kids need to know when they start Kindergarten. This was a ton of fun, let the kids be creative and get started.
Popsicle Sticks ABC words
This is what you need:
-
Clean popsicle sticks
-
ABC foam letters or ABC Stickers
-
markers
-
stickers for decorations if you like
This is how to make the Popsicle Sticks ABC word craft:
Let the kids decorate 26 popsicle sticks any way they like, whether it be with markers, crayons, stickers, glitter or all of the above; let them have fun, don’t rush them and just tell them to decorate. Doesn’t matter if they draw lines, flowers or a design. Let their creativity flow and that will keep them busy, probably for an entire afternoon or two.
We have one down, 25 more to go. My Princess is loving it and totally excited to “draw” on popsicle sticks. She had never done that before so it was a total different experience. The cool part, each stick only has so much room, so she will be done with one in no time and get excited to add it to the “done” pile.
Once all your popsicle sticks are decorated, grab some of the foam sticker ABC, we already had ours in our craft box, but I know Michaels has these always on sale for like $3 a box, Walmart has them as well. Totally worth grabbing next time you see them on sale, they can be used for so many things and keep the kids happy on a rainy day.
Once you are all done, let the fun begin. This is a super fun craft that can be done even by the littlest ones. We will use our Alphabet Popsicle Sticks to make up our sight words that my Princess needs to know when Kindergarten starts in a few weeks. She can spell her words out, sound them out and even make up new words.
With younger kids you can use the Alphabet Popsicle sticks to introduce the ABC, show them how to spell their name and recognize their name and certain words. I also like to use the sticks to write words in German, so if you are a bilingual family, this would be a great way to teach a different language with the ABC Sticks. The possibilities are endless and the best part, they don’t take up a lot of room. You can store them in a box, baggie or cup; they are easily taken along for car rides and to play dates. Lots of fun for the kids and they will be so proud that they created their very own ABC Popsicle Sticks.
Of course after all the hard work, the kids deserve a treat; why not pull out one of your favorite Popsicles to go along with your Popsicle craft theme; The kids will get a kick out of their craft and the Popsicles they get to eat. There are over 30 variations of the original Popsicle, so there surely is one for everyone to enjoy.
