When it comes to video games and my children, I am super fussy! I’m the kind of mom that wants to be absolutely sure that what they are playing is acceptable for their age and the values we have as a family. We normally do lots of research on a game if one of our children express an interest in one and this was no different.
When we were asked to review Max & the Magic Marker Run Jump Think Draw by Nintendo DS, I knew what the first step would be…. me or my husband trying it out!! You didn’t have to twist my arm because I was actually hooked once we looked it up online and watched a few videos of the actual game itself. The first time I played it, I looked at the clock after a while and it had been an hour since I had started!
Yep… I was a fan from the get go!
I knew from the start that this game would be perfect for both our sons, Chase who is 5 and Aidan who is almost 9.
The next step was handing it over to them to test as well. (yes, I did let them play too
) Just as I had expected they were in Nintendo DS heaven. Now my older son likes all video games but when it comes to Chase he has a very short attention span so I wasn’t sure how long this would actually last and if it would hold his attention. I got busy making dinner and doing some chores in the house when I realized I didn’t hear a peep out of Chase in a while and it had been over an hour!!! By that time it was dinner and I had to pry it out of his hands to come and eat.
This is the kind of game a parent is happy to have their children play. No violence, no bad language, just fun, excitement and total imagination!
A little about the game itself….Did you ever dream your drawings were real? In this game they are!
One day Max gets a mysterious marker in the mail. Not knowing better, the first thing he draws is a wacky, purple monster. But as soon as the marker leaves the paper, the monster comes to life and jumps off the paper and into another drawing. With the monster on the loose and messing with Max’s drawings, Max has no choice but to go after it. Armed with the awesome weapon of the magic marker, you must follow the monster through fifteen inventive and challenging levels. However, you will need more than good will and quick reflexes to tackle the challenges ahead. With the magic marker you will freely draw inside the game to help Max defeat enemies, overcome obstacles, and solve puzzles. As you draw stairs, seesaws, balloons, surfboards and whatever you can think of, your creations will interact with the physical environment, making every creation unique and no two games the same.
Max & the Magic Marker by Nintendo DS is rated E for everyone and contains comic mischief. Everyone in our family loved this game… even the adults so it is truly for everyone! I am so happy to finally find a game that is suited for our youngest who is 5. With so much violence in a lot of games it is nice to know he is safe and having a blast while using his imagination!
This should be on the top of your Holiday list and we give it an A+ !!!!
