Simply BIG Cookie Book Review & Giveaway

People always told me “Don’t Judge a Book by it’s cover” and boy I must admit, this book is one of them.

At first when I was approached to review this Simply Big Cookies Desserts & More Book, written by Chef Gaye Morrison, I admit I was hesitant and almost declined. I have so many other cookie books, do I really need another one??

Well one little “devil” on my shoulder told me “Go for it, who cares.. cookies are yummy’…. I’m so glad I decided to give this book a try. This book is totally me and what my Blog is all about. I love to show you guys short cuts in cooking and baking and bring “budget friendly” recipes.

This Simply Big Cookies Book is exactly that. It makes BIG  cookies, you know like the BIG cookie Cake for B-day parties??? In this book there are over 100 fast and easy recipes for big scrumptious cookies, luscious desserts and savory snacks and appetizers created with dough and mixes. It also has a holiday section and a gift section on “how to make cookie jar mixes” ( on  aside note.. I love the gift section….). Most recipes are ready in under 30 minutes.

How does Halloween Double peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie or Banana Split Cookie with Fudge Toppings sound…?? You sure need to check this Book out.

I love that I can use the cheap cookie dough that is already prepared and constantly on sale at Publix for super cheap and make a great dessert that is different and unique for the family; Or how about the 10 Cookie boxes that you bought because they were on sale for $.20 each a few weeks ago?? This book has use for them ALL!!!

We kept is simple for the review and made the

Basic Awesome Sugar Cookie Dough

This is what you need:

  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 stick butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

How to make them:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray 12-inch round ( we used our Gingerbread man) baking pan with non-stick cooking spray
  • In a large bowl, beat egg and sugar with a wire whisk until pale yellow in color. Add butter, oil and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth.
  • Add flour, powder sugar, salt and baking soda. Mix well.
  • Press dough evenly into prepared pan. bake 16-18 minutes or until very light golden. Slice into 16 wedges.
  • Serves 16!!!

P.s it came out perfect, but overnight we had it sitting on a stack of papers, I know not the smartest choice and it got cracks..:-( but was still tasty !!!Yummy.. Awesome.. Oh.. this “cookie” was wonderful. Just like a sugar cookie… melts in your mouth…. enjoy it with some Hot Coco or Tea…
