When I first saw an e-mail about the HABA Toy Company selling their toys in the US, I was a bit disappointed, because I thought they only had products for infants and maybe Toddlers. HABA was a company that I grew up with in Germany and was a household name for high quality and sturdy, as well as safe wood toys for little ones. I remember having Toddler toys, wooden blocks and all kind of products from the HABA Toy company. The only problem….. I have no more babies around… :0(.
I did a little research and found out that they aren’t just for infants and Toddler’s, they have a lot of products that would fit my Princess, which is 4. I was ecstatic and begged the PR person to allow me to tell ALL my readers about this amazing company and their products. After all, who could vouch for them more then me, a German Mom…..
Who is HABA?
At Habermaass Corp. of Germany, kids rule. You won’t see a lot of them running around the factory, but their needs and wants are foremost in the company’s mission. Owned by Klaus Habermaass, whose father started the business more than 72 years ago, the company has grown to 1,400 employees in Germany. The Skaneateles, NY, distribution office employs 18, and was acquired with HABA’s 1980 purchase of T.C.Timber, a business known for its high-quality wooden trains and block sets.
Today, HABA prides itself on the fact that children love playing with its toys, blissfully unaware of how this fosters their development. That’s the stamp of approval the company appreciates the most, but it has been recognized by the grown-up world as well: The company’s products have been bestowed honors by virtually every German toy award and virtually all of the prestigious American ones, as well.
The company has grown slowly and deliberately, and now is a major force in many countries around the world. The company favors wood as its material for most of the toys, as the beech and maple it uses are regenerative, its natural markings make it unique, it flatters the hand, is ideal for children and it inspires its designers to create little wonders. HABA is one of the only toy companies that has obtained the world renowned PEFC certification. HABA uses reforested woods to produce their products allowing for sustainable forestry.
What do I/we think of HABA?
Now, isn’t that exciting? I’m super excited and told my entire family about the Domino blocks that I always played with when I was little; we didn’t have video games or many TV Channels back then, to be honest my mom only allowed us 30 min TV a day; so our days where spend playing with our toys… My kids couldn’t believe that I actually played all day. I jumped the gun and asked to show my family the cool Domino Set, which of course has been remanufactured and made even cooler then what I remembered. Back in the day, all I had was wooden Dominos, no rods, no tires… nope we had imagination…. but none the less the Building Blocks are still as excited as ever and then some.
I wasn’t sure who was more excited my Princess or myself when the box of Building Blocks arrived. The Blocks are 100% wood and manufactured in Germany, just like I remembered; the company is still as amazing as ever, producing high Quality wooden blocks and wooden toys. I was super excited that the directions where also in German, always helps me brush up on my native language and helps the kids learn the language, but no fear, they have it in English as well; BUT to be honest who needs direction… you’ve got wooden blocks and marbles and lots of imagination… that will keep your little ones busy for hours; I know it did me…lol…
The Domino Building Starter set comes with enough to get you going… this is what is included in the set:
61 domino blocks
8 naturally colored wooden blocks
6 block clamps
2 wheel clamps
2 conveyor wheels
2 metal rods with eyelet
6 marbles.
The best part, you can combine this set with any of the marble run and ball track sets from HABA!
Well… remember when I heard about HABA USA, I was a bit disappointed thinking my kids are too old for the Wooden toys… Well… think again, as soon as my boys, which both are Teens now, found out about the super cool Wooden Domino set, they took over and started to build their very own Domino “parkur”; they must have spend hours in the room coming up with ideas and tweaking their Dominos to perfection… and OH no one better touch them… or else… I was told…. but once it was time to check out the finished project… and I love that part…… it was a ton of fun seeing the Dominos one by one fall over when the marble rolled along…. even the dogs couldn’t believe their eyes and kept looking at me… lol… what a SUPER cool toy. The Wooden Domino Blocks are rated age 3 and up… I can vouch that my 4 year old, my 13 and 17 year old had just as much fun as I had back then and now….
I could go on and on for hours how much we loved playing with the Domino set, I think you should just head over to the HABA website and order your own set…. and send me pictures of your very own creations… I think that would be soo much fun. Have you ever played with HABA toys? I would love to hear from you…. are you as excited as I’m?
For more information, be sure to visit HABA on the Web, follow on Facebook or Twitter and just let your little ones imagination go wild. I also urge you to check out the HABA Safety page to find out what kind of length the company goes to ensure all our little ones are safe with every product they produce… I just LOVED IT!!
Where to purchase: You can purchase the amazing HABA wood products through their Website Store from infants through Age 99, there will be something for everyone. Making the HABA products a great choice for any Birthday or Christmas Gift.
