I love meal planning and usually plan ahead, but honestly I hardly ever think about Breakfast or even Snack time. I usually just grab what we have or kind of wing it in the morning.
With three kids, all different age groups, all different schools and start times our mornings can get super hectic and crazy. I wish that one day I have time to actually sit myself down for breakfast without being late to the office. If it’s not the teen looking for his shoes, asking if he can have pancakes or the princess wanting to read a book while complaining that her favorite cereal is out, no matter what my kids will manage to come up with ideas to drive me crazy.
I thought it’s time to come up with a routine, YUP… A breakfast and snack routine. I will be prepared next week when we head out to the school bus and if all goes well I may even have 30 minutes of “ME” time in the morning. Let’s hope my kids corporate, it not, well at least they will be fed and ready for a good day. So check out what my plan is and if you have any ideas, leave me a comment below. You know I always love comments.
Simple Breakfast Ideas
-
Make a breakfast list for the week! Write down items that the kids like to eat from fresh fruit to crackers and even simple breakfast items like Jimmy Dean® Sausage and Egg Croissants.
-
Make things ahead! Want to serve your Jimmy Dean® Sausage and Egg Croissants with a simple fruit salad, make it the night before and toss the Croissant in the microwave while you brush your teeth. Voila Breakfast done as soon as you are
-
Make enough for the week. Make sure you prepare ahead enough that would last you the entire week, that way you only prep one time, I usually prep Sunday evenings for the week and then I can just pull it out of the fridge and let the kids eat while I sit down and check my e-mails or check homework.
-
I love to serve smoothies with my breakfast sandwiches, make them ahead, freeze them in a cup (make sure it’s a freezer safe cup) and pull them out when you wake up, they will be ready to drink when you are dressed and ready enjoy breakfast. You can make an entire month of smoothies ahead and freeze them, makes breakfast even easier.
-
Stay organized. I love to use plastic baggies and put my frozen food in like smoothie and the Jimmy Dean® Sausage and Egg Croissants so the kids can just pull out the baggie and leave it on the counter to thaw, put the croissant in the microwave and all without my help!
Breakfast doesn’t have to be hard, keep it simple, make it fun and always stock your freezer with Jimmy Dean® Sausage and Egg Croissants and you are good to go even when time runs out, they are easy to take along for a quick breakfast on the go and a fraction of the cost of drive thru breakfast.
Simple ideas for after school snack ideas:
-
Create snack boxes, write the kids name on and place all their favorite items like crackers, gummies and drinks in; I like to separate them into serving size plastic baggies for easy access and it won’t spoil their dinner.
-
Always keep your freezer stocked with State Fair®; my kids love the Beef Corn Dogs and they ask for one almost every afternoon. They are easy to prepare and take only minutes from freezer to table, perfect for the after school crowed.
-
Pair your State Fair® Beef Dogs with fresh fruit or veggies, I like to prepare that ahead of time, wash it and keep in the fridge in smaller portion sized plastic containers or baggies for easy access for the kids.
-
Keep it simple. You don’t have to dish up a 4 course meal after the kids head home from school, make it easy, small and simple. Dinner time is just around the corner, you don’t want them to fill up and skip dinner, do you?
-
If all else fails and you are on the go from the bus to the soccer fields or ballet class, make some State Fair® ahead of time, wrap them in foil and hand them to the kids in the car, they are on a stick, easy and clean eating while you chauffeur them around town.
There you have my ideas on how simple Breakfast and after school snack can be. I love to include frozen items and our favorite are State Fair® and Jimmy Dean®; always ready when I need them, always affordable and can be picked up during my weekly shopping trips to Walmart.
What more do I want? Oh yeah… happy faces! I sure have them every single day and I now have extra time for me time without running around crazy, since everyone is now taken care off during the week, I grab myself a nice hot cappuccino and relax, reflect on the day and just enjoy my family. It’s important to take a few minutes ME time every day to stay sane, so don’t forget that!
What is your Breakfast or Snack routine? Would love to hear some of your tips, leave me a comment below and let’s chat.
