Have you heard of the new show called “Extreme couponing“? It will air tonight on TLC at 9PM and 9:30PM; I watched the first episode that was aired a few month ago and I must admit, I’m a little up sad at the show and the couponers.
If you have time I would love for you to watch the show tonight and come back tomorrow and let me know what your thoughts are.
I’m being honest, I don’t like the show. I love coupons and I love to get a deal and I love to share that with my readers, BUT please as tempting it is and as wonderful it is to have a $1000 grocery bill down to $100 don’t be fooled by it.
Why would you need 60 Bottles of mustard in your stockpile if NO one in your family will ever eat it yet the shelf in the store is empty and no other costumer will be able to buy the product if they wanted to?
I stockpile however I stockpile for my family and the occasional donations that I can get, BUT my main focus is my family. Having a stockpile of 100 Boxes of cereal, sure it’s impressive and wonderful to look at especially if they all were FREE, however be within reasons.
When I first started couponing a few years back, I was excited to get FREE cereal, I bought 20 boxes… I was proud of my 20 FREE boxes… 6 month later I tossed EVERY single box out because they were stale and no one ate them, I learned my lesson now I will buy in moderation’s, what’s the point to have 100 boxes of cereal just so you can look at it and other people go hungry, that could have benefited from the deal?
I know I will get some hate mail and some love mail on this and like I said I’m being honest, this is my view of the show and the extreme couponing and I would love to hear your view. So please come back tomorrow or tonight after the show and give me your view. I also know that the show in the last episode neglected to show that some of the couponers do actually donate a lot of their items, however the show does not say that or just really quick and move on to their massive stockpiles.
Couponing is a great thing but please be selective on what you get for FREE and let other get a chance at the product, too.
This is my view and no I’m not mean or bitter because I may miss a deal.. I learned a long time ago that there will be another deal and I will be fine…

I feel the same way you do. I’m new at couponing and still learning. But there are a lot of times that I will find a good deal and go to the store only to find the shelves empty because one person bought all of it. It’s frustrating to other people.
And I’m not sure that their stockpiles look impressive. I think it makes them look rediculous. Like they are ready for WW3. Does anyone really need all of that. I don’t think so.
I’d be happy to get a week of grocery’s (let’s say $150 down to $50. I’m going to watch tonight and I’ll be back tomorrow to let you know my opinion on the shows.

I AGREE! Great post- hate that show and am disappointed in the amount of bloggers promoting it for the 2 seconds of fame. 🙁 When you have couponers yelling at cashiers and storehouses of products going to waste- it makes those of us who need to use coupons to survive look bad and the companies take notice. 🙁

I agree with you. Alot is done for the tv. It has to be over the top or nobody would watch. Plus they never add in the cost of buying all those extra coupons. It does add up to something. My biggest pet peeve about the show and couponing in general is that most people are stockpiling unhealthy foods. Forget the toilet paper and toothpaste, I am talking white flour, sodium laden foods. Let’s have an extreme couponing show with only organic food!

Laurie…that would be cool to have a challenge for some “healthy” food.. i try to buy as much organic as I can and yes you can find some deals and then I buy a lot, too.. not as much as they do on TV but enough to keep my family happy for a few weeks…

Oh this sounds really interesting… I wish we had cable so I could watch. I wonder if it will be on Hulu or Netflix anytime soon. I look forward to hearing more about it and what you thought.
