Crockpot Comfort Food– Simple Chili Dinner

September 29, 2011 By Melanie Roberts 13 Comments

You know I love my Crockpot and if you haven’t used yours in a while, it’s about time to pull it out and “fall in love” with this amazing little kitchen gadget! Why spend hours in the kitchen if someone else can do it for you?

With Fall upon us and the weather turning cooler….. well, at least in your neck of the woods, I hope. It’s  still in the 90’s here in Central Florida, but I love to cook comfort food in the Crockpot, and this week we all wanted it to feel like fall.

Why not make the ultimate comfort food, a pot of chili… it’s simple and so comforting. I know, everyone knows how to make Chili, but I wanted to remind you; it’s easy, quick and will be wonderful on a  cool fall night….. I still have dreams of a cool night, but our Chili last night at least made it feel like it was fall in this Crazy Mom’s house…. Enjoy it… and I would love to hear what your favorite Crockpot recipe is…..

This is what you need:
2 cans diced or stewed tomato’s
1 can Kidney beans
1 lb. ground beef
Salt to taste
pepper to taste
Garlic to Taste
Paprika Powder to Taste

This is how to make it:
Toss everything into your crockpot, close lid and cook for 6-8 hrs on low or 3-4 hrs on high… add cheese or any kind of toppings you like with your chili and have a wonderful dinner with the family :0)

Similar to my recipe, though mine adds onions and peppers. And in true debatable fashion, sometimes noodles, sometimes not.

Will try this one. I vary whether I add chili powder depending on how spicy I want dinner. Thanks for a great idea, it’s a cold rainy day here.

Chili is one of my favorite things to make in thee crockpot. I love to make deer chili for our friends who hunt. The trick is to mix either saausage or chirzo with the deer since it is so lean. Its a bit hot here right now for chili, but I do have some in the freezer waiting for a rainy day.

Do you put the ground beef in the Crock Pot raw? That would be so nice to not have to brown it first!! Thanks, Cheryl

Yes you can!! If I have time I like to brown it, you could even do that the night before BUT honestly it will cook for what 4-6 hrs it will get done.. however it will be very “lean” and soft if you don’t brown it first, but I do it both ways no problem at all!!! I like it easy…
