The 150 Best Slow Cooker Recipes

It’s Thursday!!!! and that means it’s another yummy Crockpot dish. We recently got our hands on the The 150 Best Slow Cooker Recipes book and we can’t get enough of the book. with 150 amazing recipes, lots of colored photographs of the dishes. this book will be wonderful for anyone starting out with a Slow Cooker as well as us advanced Mom’s. The book goes over the basics and moves quickly into Appetizers and Fondues, Soups, Beans, Lentils and Chilies as well as Beef, Veal, Pork, Poultry and Lamb dishes; but Seafood, Fish and even Vegetarian favorites are part of the book and then don’t forget the ever so yummy desserts. This book is jam packed of yummy amazing dishes, some you may already know like the classic Beef Stew, but also new ones that make you  say “What? You can cook that in the Slow cooker?” like Hot Roasted Nuts and many more, over 150 delicious dinner ideas, I’ bet there is something for everyone in this book.

The author Judith Finlayson did an amazing job on this book and it shows; she has sold over 400,000 of the 1st edition alone, I bet the 2nd edition will far supercede that.

We decided to give you a little taste test today and introduce you to the Old South Pulled Pork on a Bun; my family loved it and couldn’t get enough of this dish. We actually prepared it the night before, let it in the refrigerator until I was ready to start the Crockpot and off to work I went…

This is what you need:

1       tbsp. Oil
2       onions, finely chopped
6       cloves garlic, minced
1       tbsp chili powder
1       tsp cracked black peppercorns
1       cup Tomato based Chili sauce (like Heinz57)
1/4   cup packed brown sugar
1/4   cup apple cider vinegar
1tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp  Liquid Smoke or 1 tsp smoked paprika
3lb.    trimmed, boneless pork shoulder or blade (butt) roast
Kaiser or onion buns

This is how to make it:

  1. In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add onions and cook, stirring until softened, about 3 minutes. Add garlic, chili powder and peppercorns and cook, stirring for 1 minute. Add Chile sauce, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce and liquid smoke ( or Smoked paprika like we did). Stir to combine and bring to boil.
  2. Place pork in slow cooker stoneware and pour sauce over. Cover and cook on Low for 10 hours or on High for 5 hours, until pork is falling apart.
  3. Transfer pork to a cutting board and pull the meat apart in shreds, using two forks. Return to sauce and keep warm. When ready to serve, spoon shredded pork and sauce over (warm) buns.

Doesn’t this look yummy? It was simple and can be taken to any potluck, function or just an easy BBQ at home with the family. What a wonderful book and I can’t wait to bring you guys many more recipes in the next few weeks…. Do you own the first book? Would love to hear your thoughts.

This book can be purchased through Amazon.com and retails for $27.95, this would make a wonderful Christmas gift for Mom or even Dad.

For more information you can also check out Judith Finlayson on the Web and look at many more Slow Cooker Books in her collection. I bet they are all as wonderful as this book.

I received the book for my honest review, all opinions are 100% our own and no other compensation was nor will be received.

We love pulled pork and your version looks delicious. I like using the crockpot for pork because it keeps everything so tender ad moist. Now I feel like pulled pork!
