Cassandra’s Angel {Book review}

Cassandra’s Angel by Gina Otto and illustrated by Trudy Joost

With its uplifting and heartwarming story, Cassandra’s Angel brings an inspiring message of self-empowerment to children of all ages.

It seems like everyone–her mother, her teacher, even other girls and boys–is telling Cassandra that she just can’t do anything right, whether it’s tidying her room or painting a picture. No wonder she feels misunderstood and alone! But then she meets a very special angel who shares a secret that will help Cassandra shine brightly–and light up the world.

Cassandra’s Angel is a powerful picture book. Written in lyrical rhyme by Gina Otto and strikingly illustrated by Trudy Joost in full color, it tells the story of Cassandra, a young girl who is constantly being told by adults that she can’t do anything right. But after she endures repeated verbal assaults that wear down her spirit, her very own angel visits her and gives her a new perspective on herself and others.

At first I wasn’t too sure about the book, but the more I read it and the more I got into the story I loved it more and more and started to think “I’m like that sometimes, too”. I tell the kids to clean their room and they already did their best, yes, it’s not to my expectations, but they did their best; I tell the toddler to do something and she does he best, but I don’t see it, because it’s not to my expectations. I realized by reading this wonderful story that “they are doing their best” and that’s what matters.

I loved how easy it was to read the story and how easy you were able to get into the story. My Toddler sat still the entire time listening and I caught the Tween reading the book as well. We all loved it and think this would be a wonderful book to have in your library.

Where to buy:
