Mother’s Day is just around the corner, May 13th to be exact; I decided to make something special for my Mother-in-Law and our granny this year; since they are the closest family I have here. I knew I wanted a project that was simple enough for my Pre-K Princess to do, fairly cheap in price and I also wanted to give the new Elmer’s Painters a whirl. I had heard so much talk about those Painters and I wanted to see for myself what the fuzz was all about.
The Elmer’s Painters are acrylic paint markers that can be used on different materials like wood, glass, plastic, porcelain, fabric, paper, metal and much more and you can purchase each marker individually for $1.97!!! (So, I was told…lol). So, I set off to Walmart to pick up some of those Painters for our project and figure out what our actual project will be while I’m there as well.

It took me forever to find those Painters, our Walmart had them hidden in the Craft Isle with all the wood plaques and wood frames. Our selection wasn’t nearly what I had hoped for, I’ve heard from friends that you can purchase the Painters individually or as a pack in lots of different colors. Well, our store only had the multi packs which include 5 markers (color choice primary, pastel or Neon) and are close to $10. The kids picked the Neon colors and since we had our Painters, it was time to scroll the store for some actual projects to use those Painters on. Check out below what we came up with …
Project 1:
Our Mimi loves Sweet Tea, what better way to drink her Tea and feel loved in her very own, personalized cup. This cup was only like $2 at Walmart and is the double insolated, keep cool cup. They had different ones, we choose the double insulated.
My Princess wanted to stencil some flowers on the cup, we found those at Walmart in the Clearance Isle and they are super cool, peel and stick and start painting….
So simple, even a 4 year old was able to customized her very own Tea Cup for her beloved Mimi…. It dried fairly quickly and once she finished her “Project”, this is what the finished cup looked like….
Since we also have a Granny, whom we love very much and we loved using the Painters so much, we came up with yet another simple Gift idea… again, every child can do it. This is what you need for …..
Project 2:
We had some old mason jars in the cabinet (Walmart sells them as well), the smaller size (pint ??) and I picked up some fabric swatch along with glass gems and an Air Freshener at Walmart, cost point was $7, but I’ll be able to make at least 2 maybe 3 Gifts….
Start off with decorating your Jar any way you like using the Elmer’s Painters. We kept it simple and decorated it in the Mother’s Day Theme with flowers.
Once all the flowers where drawn and are dried, we added the Glass Gems and the Air Freshener pearls, one package of the pearls will be more then enough for 2 jars, maybe even 3. The smell is strong with just 1/3 of them in our jar.
Mix the glass gems and the Air Freshener pebbles in the jar with the lid closed for a few seconds (shake, shake, shake… shake my baby….lol)….
Once the Gems and Pebbles are mixed cut your fabric into a square that will fit over the jar, don’t be afraid to leave a little too much on the sides….
Cut off the access fabric with some fabric Scissors (well, I didn’t have any so a funky cut will have to do)….Oh.. and don’t leave the metal lid that comes with the jars under the fabric, only for storage or transportation, for the air freshener you want the “smell” to go through the fabric into your home…*smile*).
I added a small ribbon, just to be cute and add a little personal touch to it….but that’s it.. your personalized Air Freshener is all done and ready to be given as a gift.. or … kept for yourself :0).
There you have it, two very simple, inexpensive, gift ideas that will make every Mom’s heart melt… we all know Mom’s love smelly things and Coffee….:0)…. and I can attest that the Air Freshener looks might good on my shelf, I may have to make an extra one, one to give and one to keep…. won’t be a problem, I have plenty of leftover Painters, Gems and other stuff to make these….
Happy Mother’s Day to ALL the Mom’s out there….

Be my guest… that’s why I post them….:0)…. enjoy it.. it’s suuuuuuuper SIMPLE.. Just be careful with the paint, it doesn’t dry instant..lol.. but it is a lot neater and cleaner then a paint brush and little fingers can do it, too :0)

Thanks for introducing me to these paints. I’ll have to keep an eye out for them, always looking for new craft projects for my 4 year old. May even be tempted to use with a very supervised 2 year old as well.

I quickly saw this when you posted, but I remembered when I had to come up with a Birthday gift for my dear MIL. We are going to get the products this weekend and have it ready for her…. Thanks I really love this idea, it would also be a great gift for a co-worker, so hard to not spend a lot of money when those birthdays come around. You’re so creative.

I realize this is an older post but these would be great Christmas gifts for the kids to make their Grandparents, those people who have everything they need and you never know what to get them. They already have a drawer full of pajamas and a rack full of ties!
