Breakfast, coffee, dinner and then some ala Germany

I just had to show you what we had for breakfast in Germany almost every day… it is soo different then Breakfast in the US and my hubby and kids are loving it.

We have a bakery on every corner, they open at like 6AM and offer freshly baked goods…ohh they are sooo yummy. Some days the kids run to the Bakery and pick up breakfast stuff other times we just drive to the nearby bakery if we need to pick up a few things along the way; anyway it always is a yummy breakfast.

Unlike in America, we don’t eat a HOT breakfast; pancakes are never eaten at breakfast time, they are a lunch or even dinner item with applesauce or some kind of fruit; eggs are part of a Sunday breakfast but only boiled, soft boiled with salt and you spoon it out of the shell….

A typical German breakfast is fresh rolls, cold cuts, butter, jelly, coffee and maybe some fruit, even though when I showed my pic’s to my mom and aunt both their reaction was “Looks almost traditional for us, if you leave the cherries off….” so maybe they don’t add fruit…?? Anyways, it is soo different, but soo delicious and hubby and the kids are ready to move here and have this breakfast every morning now…..

We do take a lot of time eating our breakfast on the days where we don’t have any sightseeing planned and we so enjoy it… usually we can skip lunch after a breakfast like that and just grab something on the run for the mid afternoon coffee break that everyone is so addicted to over here.

For the 2 or 3pm coffee break everyone serves some kind of pastry, cake or tortes; along with coffee, cappuccino, or yes, chocolate milk for the kids; everyone just sits around and talks and enjoys the day, no rush and no hassle… just a laid back time…. till dinner time hits around 6pm.

Dinner is usually a nice hot meal, unless you ate a hot meal for lunch; Germans rarely eat more then one HOT meal a day…. if you had your hot meal at lunch, dinner is usually cold cuts and bread with veggies like cucumbers or peppers or some kind of salad to go with your sandwich.

We kind of got spoiled and had dinner almost every night at a different relative or friends house and they all made big dinners for us; sooo delicious and yes, we all ate way too much and will probly gain 50 pounds each… ohh well.. it is sooo delicious and different then in the US….

After dinner, a lot of times people take a walk through town, most of the time you end up at an “Eis tiele” which is an ice-cream place; you sooo have to stop and enjoy some of the yummy creations…. price wise, actually very affordable as well like $3-$5 or even cheaper if you just get a scoop…. soo delicious….

If you ever get a chance to experience Germany, you have to at least take time for Breakfast, Coffee Break and dinner…

I often wish we had bakeries and fruit stands on every corner. I prefer to buy my food daily and use it right away. It is less wasteful and even cheaper. Maybe I need to move to Europe 😉 The pictures of the ice cream have my mouth watering and it is only 9am! Thanks for that 😉 LOL
