We are a little over 2 weeks into the new Year and you’ve heard me talk about our New years resolution quit a bit; our Motto “Happy Healthy 2013” is going strong. How are you holding up?
Our goal this year isn’t much different then from most families, but I decided to put it all down in writing and give you my five steps to get my family a Happy Healthy 2013. Come check it out and maybe the one or the other resolution will help you get your family off to a good start, too.
My 5 Steps to get my Family Happy Healthy 2013
Step 1 ~ Drink more water Drinking less sodas and sugary drinks and adding more water to our daily life. I love water and try to drink at least 6 bottles a day, my family is a bit struggling so I’m asking them to drink one bottle to start the day and one to end the day for now; to get used to the water and drinking less sweets. So far so good and everyone is getting a bit more water. My goal for my family is to drink at least 4 bottles of water, replacing most of their sodas and sugary drinks, slowly we will get there, I know. Do you drink enough water?
Step 2 ~ Eat less processed food and more Veggies & fruit I think our biggest goal this year is to cut out processed food and replacing it with more veggies and fruit. We will not eat out as much or often and have home cooked from scratch dinners instead. It may get a bit crazy at times, but even a quick Salad and some chicken can make a delicious and filling dinner when on the go. Meal Planning will be a big part of this as well as preparing dinners ahead and using our Crockpotmore often. I try not to buy any pre-made boxed dinners and rather cook them fresh with ingredients that we can get from our local farmers.
Step 3 ~ Eat more Fiber and less Gluten That’s another big step; we always eat too much bread; I’m a HUGE bread lover and no matter the occasion, bread has to be part of the meal. I’m trying to cut that out as much as I can, my goal is to remove as much gluten as I can, without jeopardizing the taste that my family is known. We don’t have any gluten intolerance, but it doesn’t hurt to cut it down. We are replacing it with a lot more fiber for our snack time, like the Quaker Popped Rice Snacks. They are delicious and healthy come in many different flavor, perfect for the mid afternoon snack or the on the snack for when the kids need that little bit of something to get them through to dinner. What snacks do you grab on the go?
Step 4 ~ Get off the couch and exercise Yup; we are strapping on our running shoes, one by one and we are all getting off the couch; our goal is to have everyone running, jumping or whatever will count as exercise; at least 30 minutes and maybe throughout the year we can work it up to 45 min or even more. Everyone will get fit this year. Do you exercise?
Step 5 ~spend more family time together Our goal is to have the family together as much as we can. The kids are growing too fast and before long the oldest Teen will be off on his own. I want to have lots of time with all the kids and have fun time; whether it be all of us cooking dinner together or huddling on the couch for a movie night; more “Us” less “Me” time for all of us; that’s my goal.
Simple 5 steps, that I have to get my Family Happy Healthy in 2013, what goals do you have to get yourself or your family off to a good start? I would love to hear it.
