Our Home Lighting Makeover sure brightened our dinning room

February 24, 2013 By Melanie Roberts 23 Comments

we added a fun centerpiece to our table to add to the #GELighting reveal makeover

For month I’ve been complaining to my husband that our dining room is too dark. We have hardly any light in the room. No windows and the little bit of light that comes from the kitchen window, will really not even give you enough light to eat your lunch. I was already at a point where I was ready to sell the house. I’m tired of the dark dining room, just gives me a depressed feeling all day long. I had no idea what else to do until GE contacted me to check out their light bulbs and  as part of my partnership with GE, I received coupons for my GE light bulbs, of course all opinions posted about my GE Lighting experience are my own.

Check out below how my #GELighting makeover turned out. My dining room before with the only light on that we have in the dining room, the ceiling fan. It always drove me crazy. I had to turn on this big bright light to just eat lunch and it always gave the gloomy yellowy feeling, nothing natural at all. Since there is no window, no natural light at all.

Now you know what I’m talking about; it’s just bright, too bright to even want to spend time in there at all. I also needed to re-decorate the room a bit to bring it back to it’s natural beauty, but why bother, the light or lack thereof would just not make it look good anyways.

The other day I grabbed the GE coupons and off to Walmart I went. They had a HUGE section of GE lighting and I was a bit overwhelmed at first. But quickly learned that I really like the “Reveal” products from GE. The price was right, some as low as $3.37 for 4, not bad at all and every shape and size that you would ever need was available.

lots of #GELighting options

While I was at Walmart, I also checked out the lighting section since I needed some table top lights for the top of the refrigerator and some decorating items; after all, I’m on a budget and what better place  to look for fun decorations then at Walmart. Once I found all the things I was looking for I headed home to start my makeover. I didn’t really think that adding some GE Lights would make a difference, but I was up for the challenge.

Check out my Dining room before the makeover; the picture was taken with the flash off, see how dark my dining room usually is? Now you know what I’m talking about. I bet you are already getting depressed just looking at the dark picture, imagine eating lunch or dinner there.

I spend about 30 minutes adding some table top lights and a floor lamp to the room and then added a nice table centerpiece. WOW, the difference a light will make! Be sure to keep on reading so you won’t miss the reveal of how the room looks now; but I wanted to tell you a little bit about the GE Reveal lights before I proceed to the final makeover.

lighting facts for #GELightingOne light has the #GELighting and one light has the ordinary lightbulb that will eat all your power; which one is it

I had NO idea that switching our light bulbs from the standard cheap kind to the GE Reveal would make that much of a savings/cost difference. This totally floored me. I spend about $11 for a pack of 2 GE Reveal Light bulbs and it will only cost me about $1.20/a year to run one of these light bulbs; WOW!! My light bulb just went on, that’s for sure. The GE Reveal Light bulb also has a life span of over 7 (!! Yes, seven!!) years, that’s just AMAZING!

See the picture above, one side is the old light bulb and one side is the GE Reveal Light bulb; can you tell a difference? One will cost me a lot less and won’t get as hot as the other  and will also get brighter. I’m loving it! The picture doesn’t really show the entire feel of the light, but the longer I had it on, the easier it was to tell which light bulb was which. Unlike other energy saving light bulbs, the GE Reveal doesn’t get HOT or heat up the room, at all. Sure, it’s hot to the touch, but compared to a regular light bulb it’s about 1/3 less heat, at least that’s how I feel.

Have I convinced you yet to use the GE Reveal light bulbs to save some money around the home? You will never have to scream “Turn the lights off; I can’t afford the electric bill”.

I know, you are totally excited and patiently been waiting to see what the room makeover looks like; remember, only a few small changes were made in this room, but what a difference it made. It totally made me LOVE the room and the house won’t be up for sale anytime soon, that’s for sure.

Isn’t this AMAZING? The picture on the left was taken without any flash at all and the picture on the right had flash; I’m so in love with my newly “enlighten” dining room. Who knew what a few extra lights would do to a room.

I love our made over dining room and even my husband said “I can’t believe what a difference a light makes”. If you have some rooms that you want to spruce up, don’t look down, look up. Check your lights and see if the light bulb is the problem in the room.

For more information about the GE Reveal light bulbs, be sure to visit GE’s Website or follow on Facebook and Twitter @GELighting to keep up with the newest lighting trends and savings. I’ve also created a Google Plus story about my shopping trip to Walmart, you know that is always fun, especially when I find new products.

You have a lovely space there and it does look so much more cheerful with the new lights. Amazing what a little lighting will do for a room. Will have to check out the bulbs, we could use some more eco-friendly options.

Your house is so pretty and the lights look great! I need to get these bulbs because my little guy figured out how to carry his step stool around and turn on all of the lights. Seriously, he goes to each room, turns the lights on and then moves to the next room. I like that he has a new skill, but I’m constantly running around turning lights out to keep the bills down. It’s time to switch to new bulbs that don’t run up as much of a bill!

I love the way the room lights up just from adding some different lighting. I really need to do this to my living room. I might just have to invest in some GE Bulbs.

I found those GE Reveal bulbs a few years ago and I love them. I also have a room that is far from a window and I always keep a GE Reveal bulb in there!

I would never have believed that a light bulb would make that much of a difference. I have a “dark” room too so I will be trying these.

There are so many things that a proper lighting can do. You have a beautiful space. Good thing you did not have to sell the space.
