We all have a story and it all began because two people fell in love. Have you ever wondered what your last name means, the origin of your last name, facts about your surname and maybe what your Family tree looks like? I have been thinking about my past a lot lately and being in the US and all my family in Germany I so have wondered how my name came about, who my ancestors are and where they came from.
On our recent trip to Germany I treasured the time I got to spend with my Grandma, she is in her 90’s and doing very well. I was excited to see her and hear a lot of stories of where she came from, how she survived the war and many other things. I patiently took notes and brought them back with me to Florida.
Once I got back home I created an account with Ancestry to add all my info, start tracking my family history and research where my family is from. So far I haven’t found a lot, I’m still calling on my Family in Germany to provide me with lots more info that I can add to my Family tree to make it grow and explore so my Kids will learn who their ancestors were and where they came from. I vaguely know my Family isn’t strict German. My Grandma is from a polish town that she left during the war, so all that info is in my family book and will all be entered into my tree as soon as I find enough time to do it all.
During our Germany visit, my Kids also meet one of my aunts that they have never meet and I was so excited to take a picture of my Grandma, her great-grandchildren (my kids), my aunt and myself. What an awesome memory this is for my Family Tree and to share with my kids.
I’m so glad we went back home in time to see my Grandma and this photo means a lot to me; my children were able to meet their Great Grandma and this picture will be forever treasured in my Family Album. Hope we can go back someday before my grandma will pass away, I keep praying every day that we get that chance again.
Family is the best thing that was given to us; Family is always there no matter where they are or how many miles they are away. My Family is in Germany and I’m in Florida, I love them and miss them as much as if they were only and hr. away. We do try to save money for another trip but until then I can explore my Family and Ancestors through Ancestry and since they have a section where you can search in over 60 countries, I bet you will find a lot of Family overseas that you might not know you had.
When I started my Family Tree on Ancestry.com the other day, I also pulled out a few of my old photos that I had stored away and I found one that is now in my kitchen, one favorite of mine that I had forgotten. The picture above is of yours truly (the crazy Teenager, tired of taking pictures in the black outfit…Hello teen years!!), my great-grandma is on the very left, next to her is my grandma, my aunt and mom are behind my sister and my little cousin is in front. What an amazing family Picture of different generations and I wish I could go back to that day and snap 1000 more. My Great-Grandma is long gone and I dearly miss her and seeing her in this photo brought back lots of memories and questions about “Where did I come from”.
Where do you come from? I’m sure there is lots to discover about your surname, your family and who you are. Be sure to check out Ancestry.com for your free trial and give it a chance. I did and I’m fascinated with how much I was able to learn about my Family and how much more I will learn over the next few months or years.

I know about 3 generations back on my Mom’s side since her lawyer decided it was needed for her current will—-as for my Dad-I know his family was from Germany but originally from Spain.

I think all this ancestry stuff is very intriguing. I have always wanted to search my family out and see exactly where I came from. Hey from what I am told I have family that was from Germany, ha maybe we could be related. 🙂

Ha, that’s a great teen face. My daughter gives me that one all of the time. The whole pic is awesome, I love the generations! I think ancestory.com sounds awesome too. I’d like to know more about my family.

Lately I’ve been talking to my brother a lot about tracing our family tree. This would be a wonderful resource to start looking since we didn’t know where to begin.

This would be so neat to do with my sister. We don’t know too much about our family history because our parents didn’t talk too much about it.

I have not looked into my ancestry. But it sounds very fascinating to do. I have grandparents that came from Germany in the late 1890’s and settled in North Dakota territory in Hauge ND. Then they moved to where I am at today. My Dad is 100% German, and the first language he learned was German. There were 13 kids in his family. I notice that Germans live a long time. Most of his siblings lived a long time. It must have been awesome to see your Grandma.

I have always wondered about my Ancestors, as I do not know a lot about my family history at all. Which is kind of always bothered me. This would be so awesome to explore and find out about your own history. Very cool.
