Holiday Gift Guide – Book Review for Tweeen & Teen

The Secret Science Behind Movie Stunts & Special Effects…

Written by: Steve Wolf

When I was approached about reviewing this book I knew this would be a great opportunity for my Tween and my Teen to be involved in my Blog and giving ideas about Gifts for Tweens and/ or Teens. We were excited to get The Secret Science Behind Movie Stunts & Special Effects book in the mail the other day.

My Tween was the first one to take on the book and he has not let go of it yet. This book went to show and tell at school, it went to soccer practice and almost every day on the school bus. He was so amazed by the book. Let me tell a little about the Book so you can make your own picture.

About the Author: Steve Wolf;  a family dad of 3 boys and he loves Science; For over 20 years now he is using his love of “thinkering” to create movie stunts and special effects.

His Book The Secret Science Behind Movie Stunts & Special Effects has a lot of illustration for kids to stay focused; the book starts out with teaching kids how to stay healthy, because after all if you are a movie star, you can never be sick.

I love the  authors attitude in trying to connect every day common things like “Eat healthy foods” and “Stay away from Drugs and alcohol”  with cool amazing things like “How to Blow things up” or “A Chemical Reaction”.

Your little Scientist will learn in this book just about everything he or she ever wanted to know about how movie stunts and any special effects are made from start to finish.

The Author Steve Wolf has done a great job in teaching kids the basics of Science with illustrations for kids to follow like “Ice is a solid” “Water is a Liquid” and “Steam is a gas” and moves on to how to create smoke with a smoke machine and Fire & Chemical Reactions.

The book isn’t written in “writer lingo” no it is written and geared towards kids; that makes the book so easy to read and understand. Reading the book almost felt like Steve is sitting in front of me explaining all the different elements and how they work.

My Boys both gave this book a Thumbs up and I think it would be a great addition to any Tween or Teens Christmas wish list; I’m sure you can even get dad or mom interested in reading this fun and amazing book; I know I loved reading it and learning how movies stunts work;

If you homeschool or even a teacher would benefit greatly from this book, and their student will love learning from it as well.

Steve Wolf also travels across the country and lectures in schools on science, so if you are interested in having him on your school let me know and I can get you in touch with him.

Our two cents about the book : Just AMAZING… we love the simple basic Science that become such a wonderful tool to create and spark imagination, something that every child should be able to have and read and come up with their own imagination and maybe, you never know just maybe one day sit right there next to Steve and work on a project with him. He is always open to new ideas and his kids are following Suite ” His youngest son wants to come up with a Robot that Clones him and fools teachers so he no longer needs to go to Kindergarten….. way too cute… when he finds a way to do that I would love to know and with a lot of imagination and determination he may just come up with an idea.

That’s the whole point, keep kids motivated and interested in hands on projects like Science; It keeps the kids active and out of trouble and they will enjoy what they have created…..
