Book review : Jingle – Jingle

December 17, 2010 By Melanie Roberts 1 Comment

Have you seen this book called Jingle-Jingle, written by Nicola Smee ? You have to check it out when you get a chance. It is a 10×9 board Book and my toddler is in love. This book had to go with us everywhere we went the last few weeks.

This book is about a horse, a duck, a pig, a dog and a cat who decided to take a snow ride through the snow. The Cat, Dog, Pig, and Duck hold on tight as Mr. Horse pulls them in his sleigh. At the top of a hill, he hops in to join his friends so they can all sled down as a group. With each page, the easy and brilliant partnership of text and illustration successfully conveys sound, movement, and the animals’ exhilaration. For example, a minor collision with a snowman prompts a glorious full-spread Wheeeeee! as the animals fly through the air and then hilariously dive into the snow. That was SO COOL! says Mr. Horse when he emerges.

My toddler will point out each animal throughout the story and will make all the animal sounds to go along with that animal and when she sees the collision with the snowman she starts every time to say “OH no watch out guys”… and then laughs after she sees all of them covered in snow… It never got old with her, over and over. She keeps singing the Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells song throughout the book, no idea where she saw that song but I guess she sees the horse pulling through the snow she thinks it must go with it.. She loves this book, it is her favorite by far.

This is a simple board book that can be enjoyed by toddlers as well as older kids, it is fun and I’m sure your little one will get some giggles out of it, too. This book would also be  a great book for beginning readers, or if your little one can’t read yet, like my toddler, let their imagination play and tell you the story they see on the pictures. My toddler loves to do that and she thinks she is a big girl…

This book would make a wonderful stocking stuffer for your little book lover. You can purchase your own copy of Jingle-Jingle through Amazon.com or your favorite bookstore and with a prize tag of $6.95, that makes this a very affordable book that your little ones will love.

The publishing provided me with the product listed above for my honest review . No other compensation was received. All opinions are 100 % my own.
