LunchBox Tuesday is here

September 7, 2010 By Melanie Roberts 8 Comments

Well almost everyone is back in school now or just about ready to go so I was thinking about a once a week Lunch Box idea Post.

This week is a bit different with my little girl being so sick and needing most of my attention, I was just gonna post a quick idea that you may or may not know or had forgotten about.

Make your Own PB&J Uncrustable to go.

You need:

Bread

Peanut Butter ( or Nutella Spread…soo yummy)

Jelly

Cookie Cutter

Sandwich/ Freezer bag or Freezer Bowl

Make your PB&J as you normally would, make enough for the whole week. So if your kids go to school 3 days a week make 3, 5 days a week make 5 you get the idea. Use your cookie cuter to cut out cute and fun shapes, voila your uncrustable is done. Now put each “sandwich” in it’s own freezer bowl/ Sandwich bag and put them all in the freezer. Lunch is now done for the entire week, each morning you pull one out add some apples and juice and cookies and your lunch is ready to go.

I make a whole loaf of bread on Sunday and freeze it and it will last the kids all week for sandwiches, and they will thaw quickly so they are ready when your little ones lunch bell rings.

My main goal in this was to save you time and money by making the lunch ahead. Instead of grabbing a box at the grocery store.  This is also very price effective a loaf of bread will run anywhere from $.99 – $1.50 ( depending on where you are and if you like t choose higher end quality still a great price), you can get at least 10 Sandwiches out of each loaf ( regular size, less if you buy the Higher quality breads they are smaller in size). So for $.15 each sandwich, plus add a reusable water/ juice bottle makes this a great lunch that is very affordable. And something everyone can squeeze in to their weekend Schedule and have some extra time in the morning.

I make these sandwiches all the time for Tifani, I never thought to make them ahead of time and put them in freezer! I’m going to have to let my sister know!
