Authentic German Plum Cake with Streusel #Recipe Perfect for Fall

Authentic German Plum Cake with Streusel #Recipe Perfect for Fall

Fall is knocking at the door, well not in Florida, it’s still hotter then ever, but a girl can dream. Growing up in a small town in Germany I have fond memories of all my Grandma’s cooking and baking and fall was always a big thing for all of us. A lot of fruit and vegetables were ready for picking before the cold winter would set in for a few months. German Plum cake has always been a favorite of mine but since I moved to Florida I haven’t had one at all. I recently found a wonderful German recipe Facebook group and all of us started to talk and share ideas, recipes and comfort food ideas.

These gals gave me my mojo back and I haven’t started baking and cooking since. You saw my amazingly delicious German Cheesecake the other day and this time it’s Plum time. The girls all showed their amazing pictures and shared recipes and I just had to sit down and make my very first Plum Cake, too. It was super easy and most stores will have plums this time of the year, so be sure to pin the recipe to your pinterest log so you can pull it back up and make your very own Plum Cake. The real German way, the way we serve it at home, too.

I know, I know…it sounds really difficult and a lot of steps, but honestly it takes no time at all and is really simple. Give it a try; this was my very first and I think it turned out pretty darn good. I’m really proud of myself making all those yummy German recipes that I know from my childhood and my kids are experiencing them all the way here in Florida, I bet you and your family will love this plum cake, too and if you serve it with whip cream or vanilla ice-cream I bet they will make you the best mom in town!

Authentic German Plum Cake with Streusel #Recipe Perfect for Fall

Isn’t this just mouthwatering? I had to eat a bite while it still was nice and warm, for me that;s the best! The only thing I would change next time, add lots more cinnamon, I guess I was a little shy and didn’t add as much as I should have. Still tasty and ooey gooey fruity. Perfect for an afterschool snack or a Kaffeklatsch (Get-together with friends), with coffee and some friends. YUMM.

Grab your coffee, a magazine and enjoy a slice of this delicious German Plum Cake and be sure to share with all your friends… Winking smile . You could use the same recipe and add apples or pears, all are perfect for this sheet cake.

qwetchenkuchen (sp ). Open face plum cake- my mother made a soft, butter/ cookie type dough for this and apple slab cake. She used Italian plums for the plum cake.

Your recipe for Plaumenkuchen appears to be very similar to the plum cake my grandmother use to make. I am going to make it tomorrow. Thank you for posting this. I was able to create many of my grandmothers recipes by measuring the ingredients while my grandmother was preparing something. She did everything by feel and look. I never saw her use a measuring cup or spoon. Unfortunately plum cake was never one of the recipes I was able to get before she passed away.

I am thoroughly enjoying your recipes. I grew up with many of these recipes, as my mama is from Schweinfurt…Actually Sennfeld, but she realized when she said Schweinfurt, people didn’t ask for a geography lesson. But I digress. Your plum cake recipe looks very much like the one my mama makes. Pretty common at our house. This is one recipe I never helped make. Not because I didn’t want to, but she made it early in the morning while the house was quiet. I am going to give this recipe a go. Plums are in season right now. Thank you from a new reader & fan
