Crockpot Thursday: Spaghetti

June 16, 2011 By Melanie Roberts 11 Comments

Who doesn’t love a home cooked spaghetti sauce that simmered all day and just has mouthwatering flavor like you slaved over it all day?

We haven’t had Spaghetti in a few weeks and the kids had been asking for it. Sure, it’s a quick meal, but I wanted the real home cooked taste that I usually get when I cook my pasta sauce all day.

I never cooked pasta sauce in the crockpot, but why wouldn’t it work? After all, you cook it all day in there, too?

So before I left for work the other day I added all the ingredients and came home to a wonderful smelling home. it smelled like I slaved all day over the stove to have this comfort food taste like Homemade. The kids loved it and had even thirds and hubby was totally impressed with the flavor.

Little tip: I cooked the meat before I added it to the crockpot, you don’t have to do it, but the sauce was a lot less greasy then if I left the meat frozen… but either way is fine Smile

This is what you need:

1 pound Ground Beef ( you can use Italian Sausage as well Winking smile)
2 cups Onion, chopped
1 1/2 Tbl garlic, minced
1 12 oz can tomato paste
1 14 oz. Italian Tomato’s ( we used a regular diced Tomato can)
2 8oz cans Tomato Sauce
2 cups of water
1 /2 cup Beef stock
4 Bay Leaves
3 Tbl sugar
2 Tbl Italian Seasoning
2Tbl salt

This is how to make it:
Put all ingredients into the Crockpot, let cook for 6-8 Hr on low or 4 hrs on high..

Let me know how it turned out, I like it a lot better then the jars, that’s for sure 🙂 and in the crockpot just as easy as opening a jar 🙂

I’m not normally a Spaghetti fan, but if the right person cooks it and it looks delicious like yours does, then I’m all in! This looks fabulous, thanks for sharing, I’m going to follow your directions and try this!

I like to add in a can of stewed tomatoes too, gives it that chunkiness. Great classic recipe! Everyone always loves it!

By far the best sauce I’ve made so far! Made it for friends last night and everyone raved about it.
