Last weekend when I planned the Meal Plan, I wasn’t too sure on what to add for Tuesday night, so we set off to Wal-Mart, bright and early to see if we can come up with something different, something new. I’m tired of the same ol’ same ol’ dinners and I’m not a big fan of box dinners either, yet we always need it fast. I do try to make it as healthy as possible. I know I have a challenge ahead of me, I want’ something quick, easy to prepare, healthy, fairly cheap and something everyone will eat.
Let’s grab our coffee and the coupons, and maybe an umbrella, since it was raining cats and dogs in Central Florida and head off to Wal-Mart before everyone else wakes up and floods the store.
While strolling through the store I found some fall vegetables like squash and zucchini, which I love, so I decided we could make a fall skillet with pasta, vegetables and some kind of meat. So off to the meat department we went to look for something we could add to our skillet.
Sausage… that’s it.. that would be a great addition to my fall skillet; but this German gal doesn’t like just any kind of sausage, yes… I’m very picky and won’t eat every sausage. I looked at a few brats and didn’t really feel like brats would work with the skillet, so I looked around and found a new product from Hillshire Farm called “Gourmet Creations”… I love the Hillshire Farm Stadium Brats, they are my favorite, so I took a second look at the “Gourmet Creations”. They may be a great addition to our skillet; our store had Chicken Apple with Gouda Cheese, Beef and Bacon with Monterey Jack Cheese and Beef and Jalapeno with Monterey Jack Cheese. The best part Hillshire’s Farm Gourmet Creations do not have any Artificial Colors, Artificial Flavoring and no By products!! Which made me look twice, I had some major food allergies the last few weeks and this sounded wonderful.
The package has a $.55 coupon attached making it an even sweeter deal; the sausage was $3.98 at our local Wal-Mart, which is very comparable with any other sausage. My favorite was the Chicken and Apple with Gouda, that screamed FALL Skillet… doesn’t it? Hubby picked the Beef and Bacon with Monterey Jack and into the cart a few packs of each went….
I got super excited and started planning our Fall Sausage skillet and couldn’t wait to head home and start dinner….lol… yup at 9AM on a Saturday!! Hubby talked me into shopping for a few more items like Halloween Candy, vitamins and a few other things we needed and he promised that he would cook dinner one night this week.
Well, it’s been a few days since we went to Wal-mart to pick up all the items for our fall Skillet and things got really busy in the Crazy Mom house, I had forgotten all about my yummy dinner creation with Hillshire Farm until I got a call from Hubby at the office today, he announced that he has dinner waiting for me and to bring a big appetite.
This is what I saw when I walked into the door……
WOW… doesn’t that scream FALL and “EAT ME”!! …. Check out the recipe below so you can make your own yummy, super easy and so healthy dinner creation and surprise your hubby with a dinner date, like mine did. BTW… it was delicious… the flavors went so well and the sausage “Oh MY”… I’m in heaven, the Chicken Apple Sausage with Gouda was amazing in this light Fall dish…. you have to check it out…!! I can not say enough about this sausage other that we already planed 3 meals for the next week around the other Hillshire Farm Gourmet Creations flavors that are patiently waiting in my fridge… YUMMMYYY!!

I have a tried and true recipe that I often make in the summer with sausage, zuchini, onions and tomatoes. I just wish we still had fresh zucchini around here, but the frost has long since done them in. But you just made me hungry for one more batch and I have gouda and apples in the refrigerator, a sausage in the freezer, so may have to do a twist and do something in between your creation and my usual.

Ohh Jen.. share it sometimes… would love to hear your recipe…. and your “Twist” on mine sounds yummy… let me know how it turned out…. :0)

I ended up cheating and using a box, but still used the sausage! I had a Zataran’s box mix and very few clean dishes left anymore, so sliced up the sausage and added it and a can of corn to the black bean rice mix. (only one pot needed) Yummy! The gouda is going to be used for cheesy scalloped potatoes and ham tomorrow instead.

Jen.. ohhh that’s an idea as well… we do love the Zataran’s in our house ..mhhh great idea..:0)… glad you liked it and the scalloped potatoes sounds great…:0)
