Ever Sand-skied? We did on Monte Kaolino in #Germany on our Summer vacation #Travels

Ever Sand-skied? We did on Monte Kaolino in #Germany on our Summer vacation #Travels

Have you ever heard of Sand-Ski or maybe Sand boarding? Neither have I until we went to Germany this summer and one of my good friends asked if we wanted to go visit Monte Kaolino. I had no idea what she was talking about and had never heard of “Monte Kaolino” in my life.

She quickly explained that there is a HUGE sand mountain and you could sled, ski or snowboard down. My entire family was curious and we decided to be up for the adventure and another road trip was born (one of many).

Ever Sand-skied? We did on Monte Kaolino in #Germany on our Summer vacation #Travels

Monte Kaolino is a sand dune in Hirschau, Bavaria, Germany. It consists of 35,000,000 tons of sand, a by-product of kaolinite production over the years. The sand dune is now used as a ski resort in addition to other activities. Kaolinite is a clay mineral. It sure sounded like a blast and we took the 90 minute Autobahn ride for a day of fun.

It was AWESOME, I had never seen such a big mountain of sand let alone to ski or sled on it. and if that wasn’t amazing enough, they had plenty of other activities to keep you busy for the entire day. It was very affordable as well. It was free to get in and you could purchase tickets for each round on the sand mountain or a group ticket, just perfect to pay for what you need only. Very customizable, too. My oldest Teen wouldn’t let that opportunity go by and Sand board down that mountain. As teens are, they know it all and he does, too. He kept saying, I can do this, this isn’t hard…

So, I won’t tell you that he must have spend 20 minutes trying to come down that mountain and it was a bid harder then snow. I think we saw him more falling then actually driving, BUT… you haven’t heard that from me at all. After all, the picture looks like he was doing really well and had a blast, don’t you think Smile ? Mom’s of Teen’s totally understand my statement here … hahah.

My friends and her Family decided to sled down the mountain instead of skiing, was much easier and even the little ones were able to do that. The only side effect, you ended up with a ton of sand in all your little knocks and granny’s, wanted or unwanted you had sand to take home… hahah. They do give you goggles to protect your eyes while sledding down the sand mountain, pretty cool.

My husband and the kids decided it would be fun and oh so easy to walk up that sand mountain, which was totally free to do. Well, they sure got their workout and it was hilarious watching them take off super fast and get slower and slower and slower and eventually sitting down resting in the middle of the sand mountain and the heat off the sun, but they loved it.

While the boys headed up the mountain whether it be with sand board, sleds or walking, I took my Princess and we splurged on ice-cream. My favorite in Germany. I hardly ever eat ice-cream in the US, but in Germany you could find me at every Ice-cream stand eating my favorite Nuts & Vanilla Cone. Another reason why I rather stayed in the shade enjoying a cool breeze and ice-cream, I burned badly and my Lupus wasn’t playing any tricks with me and I was banned into the shade for the rest of the trip Sad smile, but still had lots of fun.

If you aren’t up for Sand boarding, sledding or waking up the huge sand mountain, no worries, they have lots more things you can do at Monte Kaolino like swimming in the pool that is adjacent to the Sand Mountain and the entry fee was very affordable, about $4.50 for adults and $2.70 for children under 17. They also had a Family ticket that was like $10 for the entire day! Bring your cooler, some drinks, food and a blanket and your day is set. That’s exactly what we did and hung out by the pool for the afternoon.

But that isn’t all just yet, there is lots more fun, they had a small water playground for the kids that was totally free to enter and let the kids play. So if you just wanted to get out of the house and not spend a dime, this would have been a lot of fun for the little ones and Mom and Dad could grab their cooler and enjoy a Picnic, too.

Well, if that still isn’t enough fun for you and your Family, you could grab a few tickets and hit the Monte Kaolino Coaster, it will take you up up and away!! It’s super cool and my princess had a blast being the driver; my friend and her family loved the coaster the best, too. Her twin boys couldn’t get enough of the coaster, the speed and the fun. Unlike anything I have seen in the US, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t have it. It was just a lot of fun and just like everything else very affordable, you can grab a one ride ticket or multiple tickets starting at about $5 for 15 and up and for the under 15 crowed it starts at $3.50 but they have lots of ticket options to save you money, you can buy a bundle. SUPER FUN!!

This was such a fun day and I’m so Thankful that my friend suggested it. If you ever make a trip to Germany, be sure to add Monte Kaolino to your list of things to do. You will be glad you did. For more information, be sure to visit their website, they have videos and a virtual tour of the place, too.

Before I let you go, be sure to check out our video of the Sand Mountain, it’s nothing professional, but I hope you still enjoy the ride and don’t forget to check out all our Germany trip posts.

All opinions and ideas are 100% my own, I was NOT compensated for this post, this was strictly our very own Family Vacation that I wanted to share with you. Hope you enjoyed it.

I have never heard of sandboarding before. That sounds neat, but I wouldn’t love falling and ending up with a face full of sand.

It looks like there was certainly a lot to do for the whole family! I would have probably hung out by the pool, but my family would have tried to walk up that sand mountain like yours did! Haha.

What an amazing time! My kids would have a blast doing all of it. Your poor face, you look so badly burnt, hope the pics made it look worse than what it really was. The ice cream looks delicious!
