I have to tell you; Kohl’s sure is my favorite place to shop lately, not just for clothes, but I love their home décor and kitchen section. The other day I strolled the store while waiting on the kids to finish soccer practice and I came across the Bobby Flay kitchen section. I already have a few of his items that I love and I know the quality is great, but when I saw the new Ramekin line, I flipped.
There are two different sets of Ramekins, one is a rectangular set that has 3 ceramic dishes in 3 different colors and the other set is a set of 4 round ramekins in 4 different colors. They looked AWESOME and I absolutely fell in love with them at the store. Little did I know that I would LOVE them over and over when I brought them home.
You may have already seen the rectangular ramekins in a prior post for my Monkey Bread with Raspberries and Nuts; didn’t they look stunning? I’m absolutely in love and keep using them for about everything. Each ramekin is dishwasher safe, can be used in the oven and microwave, making them perfect for smaller portions, different dishes and I will use them this holiday season to create individual dishes for everyone in my house; makes it easy to create dinner with a personalized touch for everyone and they look great on the table as well. Just think Thanksgiving everyone likes a different stuffing; now you can make a main batch and then add different twists to each ramekin. I bet everyone will love it.
I love to cook from scratch or semi-scratch and Mac’ N Cheese is something that I love to cook but everyone likes it a bit different, the ramekins from Bobby Flay came in handy once again. Let me show you how we made 4 different versions of homemade Mac’ N Cheese in no time that will please everyone in your home as well.
Personalized Homemade Mac’ N Cheese
For the basic Mac’ N Cheese you need:
-
1 box of elbow macaroni or whatever pasta your family likes; cooked
-
1 cup milk
-
1 cup heavy cream
-
2 cups of cheese, we used Gouda, but your favorite shredded cheese is fine
-
1 cup crushed butter crackers, I used Ritz crackers
-
salt, pepper and any other seasoning you like to add.
-
4-5 tablespoon flour
-
3-4 tablespoon melted butter
-
anything you like to add to personalize your Mac’ N Cheese like broccoli, carrots, chicken, shellfish etc.
This is how to make the Homemade Mac’ N Cheese:
Make a roux; melt butter and once melted add the flour; keep stirring, it will get dry and may lump up; keep stirring and while stirring slowly add some mile; stir and stir again till the flour and butter is smooth, add the rest of the milk; keep on stirring; add the heavy cream and keep stirring; once all is nice and smooth; add seasoning of your choice, add 3/4 of the shredded cheese and keep stirring till all is melted and smooth. Once the sauce is nice and creamy, add your cooked pasta, mix well.
Now your main Mac’ N Cheese is done and tastes amazing and is ready to be served, but to make it a little different for everyone I like to add different things that the kids like. In a small bowl I added some of Mac’ N Cheese mix and mixed it with broccoli and carrots for one kid, chicken for the other and hubby and I mixed cooked Lobster meat in our Mac’ N Cheese.
Fill each Mac’ N Cheese mixture into the Bobby Flay Ramekins that are the perfect portion size; melt some butter and add the crushed crackers, mix till the crackers soaked up the butter and sprinkle on top of your Mac’ N Cheese, top with a little more cheese and put in the oven, preheated at 400F for about 15-20 minutes till the top is golden brown.
It was sooo Yummy; everyone loved that they had their very own Ramekin color and their very own personalized Mac’ N Cheese. I did tell you that I’m in love with the Bobby Flay Ramekin’s, right? The colors are vibrant and since they are dishwasher safe, they sure will be a hit in your home as well. I love them so much and actually put a second set of the rectangular Bobby Flay Ramekins on my Christmas wish list, since the set comes with 3 (a green a red and an orange) Ramekins and since we are 5 and the size is just perfect for everyone.
The round Bobby Flay Stoneware Ramekins come in a set of 4 (green, blue, red and yellow) and are a bit smaller then the rectangular ones, but still the perfect size for individualized soufflés, casserole dishes or desserts. The possibilities with each set of the Bobby Flay Ramekins are endless and I know you will love them as much as I have and will for a long time to come.
For more information about the Bobby Flay Cooking Collection, be sure to visit your local Kohl’s or Kohls.com; the round 4pc Bobby Flay Ramekin and the rectangular 3pc Bobby Flay Stoneware Ramekin set each retail for $29.99

I love this. Bobby Flay and I are “buddies” when it comes to the ramekins (which I purchased from Kohls, too!). I love the idea of individual servings (and the ability to freeze the portions). Your idea of making them different for special tastes is a great one!
