How to balance your little ones diet was a question I was asked the other day by Tyson Chicken for their Give a Smile get a Smile contest.
I started to think… how do I balance a healthy diet for the kids? Being a busy mom of 3 and working outside the house full time doesn’t always make it easy to prepare healthy meals for the kids. I do however have a few tips and wanted to share them with all of you so maybe you can also create a simple yet healthy and balanced diet for your family while on the go.
-
Lots of fresh fruits & veggies: We always have fruits and vegetables around for the kids to grab in their lunch or as a snack and for dinner. Keep the fruits and yes, veggies accessible and part of the kids life, they will grab them rather then chips or junk if they are used to seeing the “good” stuff on the counter.
-
Home cooking: I know this is a challenge for us, but even on busy days we try to prepare a home cooked meal for the kids; a big help is the crock pot. I prepare the dish the night before or right before we leave the house and let it cook all day; after a busy day at the office and maybe soccer games and shopping we come home to a healthy home cooked meal; saves not only time and money but is also a lot healthier for the little ones.
-
Meal Plan: This is a HUGE help, create a meal plan for the week and stick to it. If everyone knows what’s for dinner that night eliminates the 5pm phone call “What’s for dinner” and someone running to a fast food place to grab something quick cause no one has a clue on what to cook. The Meal Plan helps not only eat healthy, but also saves money!!
-
We offer either salad or 2 veggies with each meal for the kids to choose; make it part of your dinner routine and make it fun; maybe introduce new veggies and play a game of dare for the kids to try it.
-
Keep it simple, is the most important thing with keeping the kids happy and fed; don’t worry too much. A yogurt and fruit is a healthy choice that my kids don’t know is “healthy” but they love to take that over cookies any day.
These are just a few ways how we keep a balanced and healthy diet in the crazy mom’s house while still living a hectic and busy life. We can do it… so can you!
I mentioned the Get A Smile Give A Smile earlier, let me tell you a little bit more about this contest that Tyson has open right now wants all you moms out there to show them your Kids smile during a good meal 🙂 It could actually end up in Parents Magazine or Time Square Billboard if you win. How cool is that?
Thanks to Tyson’s 100% All Natural Chicken Nuggets, now you don’t have to choose between making your kids happy and feeding them balanced meals.
But I’m curious, how do you ensure your child maintains a balanced diet? Join the conversation and Tyson will select a winner and donate $500 in the winner’s name to a local food bank!
