As a mom of three, a 4 year old and two teen’s it’s always a challenge to keep everyone’s schedule organized. I also work outside the home, full time. But no matter what is going on or what activity we have that evening, we always have a sit down dinner with everyone.
Sometimes that proofs to be a challenge on its own, so to give you an idea of how my day goes, I decided to give you a quick break down to show you how buys a family in the 21st Century actually is; how busy are you guys?
My Alarm clock rings at 6:00; to get up and get Teen “A” up for his bus; he has to be at the bus Stop by 6:30 to head off to school; then it’s time for me to get ready for work, shower, hair, makeup all the normal stuff; somewhere in-between I have to wake Teen “B” up and the princess to get her ready for Pre-K; Fix breakfast and lunch for the Princess to take to her Pre-K Class and make sure everyone has their medication, book bags and things that are needed for school that day; coffee in hand and out the door we go at 7:20.
First stop is the Bus Stop for Teen ’B”; kick him out of the van and off we go to drop the Princess at her Pre-K class a few miles down the road. If we time it perfectly we will miss all the traffic on the main highway to her school and zip right out, if we are running late like most days, well.. We will sit at the intersection for a good 5-10 minutes till traffic lets of.
Once all the kids are at their designated spots for the day, it’s time for me to finally take a deep breath and enjoy some music and coffee on my way to the office, a 45 min drive.
I get to the office around 8:15 and work, work, work till the bell rings… at 5PM (most days, some days I get to enjoy my co-workers and clients a bit longer), I rush out the door to make it to Teen “B’”s school to pick him up from running practice, and head straight over to Teen “A’”s school to grab him from some kind of after school activity; then we take the 45 min drive back home; during rush hour and anything else the traffic will throw at us.
Finally around 6pm we all run into the house, grab the soccer shoes and drinks and meet Hubby and the Princess at the Soccer fields for practice. With 3 kids in 3 different age groups, we have of course 3 different times to practice or games, so that is always fun and a challenge to get everyone there on time.
We all finally make it home around 8:30pm and that’s when we all sit down for a family dinner, a bit late, but better late than never. I don’t like to run to a fast food place or restaurant, we are frugal and still try to save money while on the go; so a lot of nights we end up with a quick dinner like the Tyson Mini Bread Bowls; they are quick, easy, delicious and everyone loves them; add a salad and you have a yummy dinner for the family to enjoy.
After dinner we have a bit of TV time or family game nights and then the alarm rings at 6AM to do it all over again. See how busy a family in the 21st Century can be? What is your schedule like? How do you handle dinners on the go?
