I know, the kids just got out of school and here I’m thinking about a back to school craft idea. You can never start too soon to organize and the best thing you could actually use the DIY mobile homework station all summer long, too. Not sure how it goes in your house, but it’s kind of a tradition that at the end of the school year we head to the store and pick up workbooks for the next school grade and the kids can practice during the summer and brush up on their skills. So the DIY Mobile Homework station really would come in handy to keep the kids busy this summer, too.
It’s really super easy and if you are tight on room like we are, this will be a great addition to your routine. The best part, since it is mobile you can move it from room to room, take it in the car, put it outside by the pool or porch and just do your work anytime of the day no matter where you are. Love that we can now sit on our porch and have all our items that we need to finish some of the work for next year like crayons, notebooks, pencils and anything else you may need.
You can Save on back to school essentials with Dollar General! Bet that’s one place you weren’t thinking off at all. I needed a few drinks the other day for the kids and Dollar General was the closest store and I was really surprised by all the fun things I found there and all very affordable. That’s when the idea came for my DIY mobile homework station. I love to be organized and they had a lot of fun basket, boxes and containers and all in my favorite color green. What a find! I also checked out their back to school area and found everything from crayons to markers and notebooks. Perfect for my daughter to stay active this summer and already started my back to school shopping while I was there.
I picked up a few different size containers and pins along with a few essentials like scissors (you can never have too many just like pens… they somehow always disappear in my house?? Yours, too??) markers, notepads and notebooks. My daughter also loved the colorful Tape trendz tapes and we decided to decorate and customize our DIY mobile homework station with her favorite colors and style. She actually taped it all herself and she is 7, so don’t be afraid to let your kids help you in creating their very own homework station.
Once we decorated them all we placed them on a kitchen tray (I already had that in the house, so this was not bought at Dollar General) and now we have everything in one place, all the time, anywhere. I’m in love with it and my daughter is obsessed and has spend hours already coloring, writing and practicing her work for 2nd grade. It sure will keep her busy all summer long and will be perfect for her homework come next year.
All items are at Dollar General, so it was a one stop shop for me that didn’t even break the bank. They have lots of coupons available, so don’t forget to check online to print them or load their app for mobile coupons. You will love it!! Always good to save a buck or two if you can. While I shopped for my organizing items I also have to admit I walked out with a big cart full of snacks, drinks and other stuff to keep the kids happy this summer. Love that they are affordable and had everything my kids love like chocolate, chips, even salad dressings and mustard or mayo for your grill parties. Totally worth checking out!

I like your homework station. We were just organizing my sons supplies this afternoon, and I definitely needed this post. We also went on Monday to buy workbooks for the summer. It’s nice to know I’m not the only one.

Are those mixed nuts in with the pens in the cups of pens? If its food its not very clean to have those nuts uncovered and in with the dirty pens.. very unsanitary. If they are salted the salt will be on the kid’s fingers and be everywhere. This is very dirty.. What a joke.. What kids need all those colored inks to get onto clothes and not come out.

Hi Terri; thanks for leaving me a comment, actually NO they are not nuts they are rocks, totally clean washed rocks that won’t harm your child. You could use glass pebbles if you like, thanks for your concern, hope we were able to make you feel more at ease now. As for the coloring, kids love markers and colors, so why not include them in your coloring station, depending on the age of the kids homework requires pictures to be drawn, all the ones I bought are washable so let them get a little dirty, won’t hurt them a bit.

What a cute way to manage clutter. Different colors would make this idea great for almost any decor, too.
