PC Game Review: iCarly iSOCK IT TO ‘EM

March 19, 2011 By Melanie Roberts 2 Comments

In 5, 4, 3, 2… it’s time for the iCarly Telethon! Spencer’s creating a gigantic sock sculpture for Socko and needs – yep, you got it – SOCKS! Join Carly and friends on her web iTelethon and help get crazy, fun acts onstage to perform! The more points each zany act receives, the more socks will get donated and the bigger success Spencer’s sculpture will be.

iSOCK IT TO ‘EM is exciting, challenging and totally fun! Can you help Carly keep her telethon online? Will Freddie keep his camera in focus? Can Spencer and Sam stay out of trouble at the Judge’s Table? You’ve got just 28 hours to collect enough socks – but beware of the Unhappy Performers, Broken Lights, Sock Attacks and more that could stand in your way!

All three my Tween, Teen and even my toddler love to watch iCarly, so this game sounded like a lot of fun for the kids. It is recommended for ages 6 and up; I had my Tween play and check it out, although my Toddler loved the music and spend some time clicking buttons, she had a ball fixing all the broken lights J but it was way too advanced for her… okay back to my Tween who did the actual play and review for me.

There are 28 levels to this game and that’s how long it takes for you to finish the giant sock sculpture; the sock sculpture grows with each donation that comes in through he iCarly Telethon; You are competing in a sock talent show where anything from sock puppet to sock dancing will go to get the crowed going to donate socks to iCarly’s Telethon to reach her goal in 28 hours. Carly runs through the game like crazy fixing anything that breaks to keep the show rolling; the game has all the familiar iCarly characters like Freddie, Spencer and Sam helping out with the sock talent show.

At first when my Tween started to play I was a little confused, because this game has one screen, with the same set, I thought my game was broken. When I contacted the company they informed me that the game is like an arcade game and you are trying to reach each goal and with each level you get more tasks to take care of in the talent show, more people participating and Carly has more work to clean and fix things to keep the show rolling smooth and you also get cool rewards that will help you achieve your task like lights that are more reliable or an upgrade for the washer, since Carly is washing all the socks and many more. For me as a mom the game looked boring, after all you keep staring at the same screen and move your mouse back and forth. Kind of like Tetris, remember that game?

But then the game isn’t for Mom, a lot of things look different through the kid’s eyes. My Tween has been glued to this game for an hour now and he won’t even communicate with me because he could miss a broken light that needs fixing or a new talent show contestant that may appear. He had a ball playing this game. It clearly is a game for passing the time rather than learning, this game would be fun to play on a Friday evening after a busy week at school, where your Tween can just relax and not “think” too much and have a good ol time trying to meet the goal to build the Sock Sculpture in 28 hours J .

So for your 6+ up crowed this game is a lot of fun, for Mom’s & dad’s this game is not so much fun, maybe we are just too old to get the idea… but as long as the kids like it and enjoy it, that’s what counts.
