Review & Giveaway: “reisenthel” Carrybag from Germany

April 16, 2011 By Melanie Roberts

In search of bringing you more of my German tradition and products, I came across a wonderful company called “reisenthel“; they are a German company but their products are available here in the US. In Germany and most of Europe the Hausfrau ( Housewife) walk to the store or pretty much anywhere they need to go. Shopping and anything that is needed is usually close by and can be accessed either by walking or bicycle. Which makes just about anything convenient. But to carry your things home since you don’t have a car you need a basket. Carry baskets are very popular in Germany; they have been ever since I was a little girl.

I remember my mom came home from work every afternoon around 3PM and she carried her wicker basket, which held all her things she needed for work, her purse, snacks, anything she needed while away from home. The basket was almost like her purse, it was a steady companion anywhere we went, if we ran to the grocery store the basket came in handy to bring home our purchase, if we went to the market we carried home our veggies, if we went to the Doctor she carried any meds she needed the doctor to see, or any things we needed, with her in that basket.

In Germany and all over Europe, carry baskets are very popular for so many reasons, they can turn into grocery bags, diaper bags, gift bags.. anything you want a carry basket to be. I haven’t seen anything like this here in the US, but I did know that the trend to a more earth friendly bag is growing; especially for grocery bags and all kind of other things; they are not just convenient but also save a lot of plastic bags in the end.

This is where “reisenthel” comes in, they have a wonderful line of all kind of different bags and baskets; I was especially interested in the carrybag. This basket comes in many fun and unique fabric colors and patterns.

With its lightweight aluminum frame and tear proof polyester lining, the durable basket is no heavier than the items you stow. The carrybag is not just practical for any shopping excursion, it’s also easily stored. The collapsible bag is only inches thick, when flattened, making storage a breeze. Effortlessly stylish, the bag is as lovely hanging on an arm at the market as it is at home used for storage or décor.

When the bag arrived at my door, I was super excited. It had been 12+ years since I’ve seen a carrybag. I have been looking all over in the US for one. When I opened the box, to my surprise the carrybag came with its own carry/ store bag; this will be super cool if you keep it stored in the car, it has a zipper to keep the carrybag protected and neatly stored away on your back seat or trunk. Check out how slim it is, too.

Now it’s time to check the actual bag out; the bottom had 5 very sturdy yet lightweight “feet” so your carrybag would be sitting steady on the ground, yet not all the way on the ground to get dirty.. love that idea….if you flip your carrybag  over you will find the instructions on how to insert the stabilizer strips, along with the strips; they are super simple to insert. There are 4, one for each side, slide them into the pocket provided for the strips and voila, your carrybag is assembled… easy as 1,2,3… The inside of the carrybag also has a pocket with a zipper that can hold your wallet, keys anything you need to go to the market or take the kids to the bus…

This was a super easy and quick assembly and the carrybag  is soo light… and I love it… check out a few more pic’s…

I took my carrybag to the office the other day and proudly presented my German Culture to the girls there… every single one of my colleagues wanted to know where I got it from and how cool it was; they were in love with the fabric, color and how light it was; this carrybag  has a ton of room. It is bigger than I thought and yet so much lighter than I thought. I use it every day, going to the office, carrying my lunch, on the way home if I need to stop by at the grocery store, I grab my basket and run into the store, no plastic bags needed, I don’t even need a store basket, I have my own, grab what I need, pay and we are on our way; I had to take the toddler to the Doctor the other day, I took her blanket and water bottle put it in my basket and ( well, yes we had to bring her baby doll, who made the basket her home..lol) off to the doctor we went…. Did I tell you I love this carrybag from reisenthel???

This carrybag is definitely  an eye catcher and I got lots of great comments at the grocery store or even just out and about, everyone is asking where I got it from and how to get one….I know you want one you can purchase them through Amazon.comor Touch of Europe and they retail for $39.99; for more information and to check out all the other colors, patterns and styles and accessories like the cover to close up your basket (that is too cool) or the new carrypocket ( I can’t wait to grab one of those) which adds another pocket to the outside of the carrybag. Check out reisenthel or follow them on Facebook .

I’m proud and honored to be able to introduce my readers to European products that I know, personally use and love; One lucky 2Boys=1Girl=OneCrazyMom reader will be able to win one of the carrybag, “reisenthel” graciously offered one carrybag as a giveaway to my readers.
