As most of you know, I grew up in Germany. Did you know that one of the biggest things that we asked all our American friends to pick up for us at the Commissary was dip for the chips? We had never heard of the concept of dipping chips into a sauce, cheese or salsa and we went nuts over it. I remember a French onion dip always was my favorite with plain potato chips and my friends had to buy it by the bucket because my entire family devoured it in no time. Crazy isn’t it? Now the American’s love to dip pretty much anything and at the grocery store you will find a lot of pre-made dipping sauces and salsas but I’m no longer craving anything that comes out of a can these days and long gone are the days where we ate the dipping sauce by the bucket.
Now fast forward to 2014 and being the mom of 3 I look for quality and homemade snacks that I can dish up for my family as well as simple. We all know, everyone is busy with Soccer or football practice, homework and house chores. If your family is anything like mine, football season is in full force and football Sunday and Monday are like a big deal and you have to always have a quick snack on hand, little did I know how simple these dips that all American’s love could be. I had never ever made a dip before, always opened a can and if I wanted to be fancy put it in a jar and called it semi-homemade, but never even thought that I actually could make them myself. I guess I never put much thought into it, after all in Germany we thought it was the best thing since sliced bread so I’m sure it had a lot of secret ingredients that I probably wouldn’t be able to find, right? Well, wrong… I’m all wrong!
Long story short, I made my very first dip, ever! I’m so proud of myself and especially since it took 4, yes (!!) 4 ingredients that I actually had around the house to make this delicious Creamy Chipotle Onion Dip for my family and served it with Chips and pretzels. Yup, we had to stay true to the American roots and serve chips and dip. If you really want to be fancy you could dish up veggies, wings or anything else, but I worked hard, slaved over the dip, chips it was all I had energy for! (Shhh… don’t tell the guys that I actually spend the rest of the time painting my nails, sipping on my favorite cocoa and talking on the phone to my BFF…. lol)…
TABASCO Creamy Chipotle Onion Dip Recipe
2 Tbsp. TABASCO Original Pepper Sauce
See, I told you this was super easy. I had no idea that Creamy Chipotle Onion Dip would be THAT easy to make. It was delicious and creamy and I can say I made it! It was even better than that stuff out of the can that I used to love so much, what was I thinking? I see a new world of flavor coming at me now that I know I can make my very own dipping sauces, I’m super excited. I can have my BFF’s Hellman’s Real Mayonnaise and TABASCO Chipotle pepper Sauce right next to me and create a few different ideas for our next Sunday game. I’m excited. Now go ahead and try your very own dip, I won’t tell you hubby it took you 5 minutes to make, enjoy the extra time doing something you love like chatting to a friend, reading a book or painting your nails and then tell the guys that you really slaved for them and for them to enjoy their labor of love.
I love Onion dip and Onion dip made with Hellmann’s is fired up to the next level with the addition of either TABASCO Chipotle Pepper Sauce or TABASCO Original Pepper Sauce. Chipotle Pepper Sauce or TABASCO Original Pepper Sauce.

I’m totally picturing you (like a teenager wanting someone to buy beer) standing outside the commissary stalking people to buy dip for you. LOL Yes, we make our own dip and love how easy it is. Our favorite base ingredient is Hellman’s. I’ve never thought of using Tabasco in it. What other unique ingredient ideas do you have, Melanie? Maybe something German-inspired?
