Can you believe Halloween will be knocking at our door in just a few short weeks. WOW! Time is zooming right by us, didn’t we start summer vacation just yesterday? I love to decorate and cook for fall and Halloween so the other day I decided to come up with a fun party idea that would be a hit with all your party guests or could even be a fun favor for your teachers or even little goblins that knock at your door.
I made my very own chocolate bowls. We’ve all seen them all over the internet, many of my friends tried to make them some said it worked, some said it was a big mess and others said never again! I took on the challenge and I would love to share some of my tips with you on how to make the perfect Halloween Chocolate bowl, too.
This is what I learned from making my own Chocolate Bowls
-
Melt your Chocolate in the microwave and heat it 10 seconds at a time, stir after each (It will not take long at all, I think mine took 30 seconds!!).
-
Add a spoonful of oil, I love Coconut Oil, that worked really well. Add it before you start to melt the chocolate and mix it really well. It allowed me to get the chocolate very smooth and stayed melted longer.
-
Wash your balloons and dry them really well, any balloon will work from water balloons to party balloons (well I take that back the BIG Helium balloons may work I wouldn’t recommend it though). The regular party balloons were easier to work with though!
-
Only blow up the balloons with 1-2 puffs; if you make them too big your bowl will be GIANT and you may not have a bowl big enough to dip the chocolate in!
-
Always use baking paper or a silicon mat when working with melted chocolate.
-
Dip your Balloons into the chocolate 1 time, sit on parchment paper and put in freezer! YES, freeze.
-
Dip 2, 3 or even 5 more times after that, each time put it back into the freezer!! The thicker the chocolate the better your bowl will hold up!
-
I used a spoon to turn my bowls into spooky bowls, perfect for Halloween, no one knows that the uneven chocolate isn’t suppose to look like that!!! I kind of loved them that way!!
-
Keep them cool as much as possible!
-
Slowly after they have been frozen for a while use a needle and slowly deflate the balloon, that eliminates the balloon sticking and even breaking your bowl.
-
You can spray the inside (well actually outside of the balloon) with oil, I did not do that and the balloons pulled out without a problem, I did had to pull it off, which was easy and no damage done (to most of the bowls!).
Voila, these are MY experiences and tips with my chocolate bowls. They turned out awesome and the kids loved them. Once they are done you actually could “glue” with some melted chocolate eyes on the bowls, decorate it do anything you wanna do, just keep in mind it is chocolate and may melt or break. We are in Florida, it’s very humid so working with chocolate for me was a challenge but if it’s not HOT HOT in your neck of the woods you already have a good start to your chocolate bowl making!
Once I finished my bowls I made a fun Harvest Snack mix, I added different things the kids like from pretzels, raisins to popcorn and cereal and don’t forget to add candy corn, mix it all really well in a bowl and fill the chocolate bowls.
Simple, fun and so awesome on your Halloween or fall party table.
