Step2 has done it again; I’ve always loved their products and this time they’ve come up with an Art Easel Desk. My Toddler is a HUGE fan of anything coloring , she’s a little Picasso and her artwork will take over the house if I’ll let her.
I was super excited when Step2 announced their new product line; one of them showed up at our door the other day. This HUGE box arrived and my Toddler’s eyes got twice as big. She jumped for joy and hops of a wonderful new desk that can be placed in the living room.
When we opened the box we were greeted by about 5 items in the all so familiar Blue and Red colors; It looked a bit intimidating and the first thing my Teen said was “Ohhh, we have to put this together?”
So grab the screwdriver, which is the only thing not part of this box and let’s get going, read the instructions and in no time you have the desk assembled, was my answer to the Teen.
It took the Teen about 10 maybe 15 minutes, but only because he didn’t read the instructions and added the Dry eraser board upside down..lol… He tried to tell me that “Yup, the clip goes upside down”..lol.. let’s take it off and try again was my response..lol…
This is what we ended up with after about 15 minutes of assembly by the Teen.
It’s a cool Art Desk, the front ( or the back, depending on how you look at it..lol) has a build in seat for your little one to sit on, I love that the seat is attached and will not be carried through the house to be used as a Step latter… the Desk itself has a few different functions which are really cool; it can be used as a dry eraser board, you can flip the board open and store your Art supplies underneath.
I love the Storage compartment, unlike other products, this one is fairly deep and can hold a large amount of crayons, markers and even coloring books. There is also a Art supply holder above the workspace to hold pens, markers and even some coloring pages and books for easy access while being creative. That’s a lot of activity for one little boy or girl, but that’s not all… Turn the Desk around and you have a larger Dry eraser Board that can be used as an Art Easel equipped with a clip to showcase your drawings and creations.
Below the larger Dry eraser Board is another storage compartment that will hold a small amount of pens, markers or anything you need to finish your Picasso Picture.
The entire Art Easel Desk is wonderful to move around and a great alternative to those larger and bulkier desks we’ve all seen in the store. The step2 Desk will fit in smaller spaces but make a HUGE impact for your little one; you can easily move it with one hand from once place to the other, but it’s “heavy” enough for your little one to not lug through the house.
Step2 has been around since 1991 and we all know the quality of the products; since they are out of durable plastic, they are easy to clean and keep clean yet strong enough to go through many little ones. I still have Step2 products that my Teen had when he was little and they still look like new even after 15+ years and 3 children playing with them. I love the equality of Step2 and especially this Art Easel Desk.
Your little one can also use it during role play and pretend they are sitting at a School Desk, or even use it as part of their “Home role play” décor. It’s so cool and versatile even outside the Art Department. I love the light weightiness of this, it makes it simple to take outside on the porch for my Toddler to color while I’m doing yard work.
I could go on and on for hours why I love it, but there is also one thing that I don’t like. It wouldn’t turn me off in buying the product or look at the product in a different way and I don’t think my Toddler cares or even noticed, but I don’t really like the storage for coloring books above the desk; it is slightly slanted and the paper will not stay put back, it always folds towards the drawing board, yet it will not fall out. The pencils or markers are all at an angle as well towards our little one, it does make for easy access, BUT I wish it would not slant and be more in an upright position. Like I said, this isn’t a major issue and my Toddler wasn’t turned away by it, just an observation as a Mom that likes to have everything in order neat and clean
We had countless of ours of fun with this Desk and also had some mishaps; my Toddler took a Permanent Sharpie before I even finished the review and colored all over the Dry eraser Board, she was so proud of herself and I was in tears, how can I show you guys a product that is already permanently “messed up”?
I know things happen and I’m sure any other little one will do the same thing in no time, BUT to my surprise even after 10 minutes of the Sharpie drying with a little ( really a little) elbow grease we got the permanent marker off and it looks like new… so Mom’s and Dad’s incase your little one would decide to permanent color their Desk, there is hope and it can be restored quickly
Left Picture is the Permanent Marker creation and right picture is after we cleaned it up …… Looks great, doesn’t it?
The Dry Eraser board is by far my favorite; it’s smooth and easy to clean if you use Dry Eraser markers. My Toddler was able to color and create her masterpiece for hours and I didn’t had to run and find papers and coloring books every five minutes. She actually enjoyed drawing and erasing it afterwards. This would also be a great idea if you want to teach your little ones how to write, or for homeschool.
Overall we are giving this two thumbs up and love the creativity and quality of the product. You can check out Step2 for more info on the product and to purchase one for your little one; back to School will be here in no time or even Birthday and Christmas would be a great occasion for this Art Easel Desk. This desk retails for $54.99 and is worth every penny.
