So, we are done with the kitchen remodel as most of you have seen on our Facebook page. Do you ever look at your kitchen and think “Uggghhh. I wish I could afford new hardware?”.
I know changing some hardware around will give your kitchen a total different appeal and by far it’s a cheaper alternative then replacing the kitchen, it’s still not too cheap. I kind of priced the hardware at our local Lowes & Home Depot Stores and they run about $5 ( average) a piece. Well… that would be fine if you have one maybe two cabinets in the kitchen.. I had well over 30 pieces of hardware that needed to be updated to my “now” taste. I easily could have spend well over $100 for just the hardware, yes it’s a simple fix, fairly inexpensive if that’s all you are fixing, but still not on the cheap side.
Let me get you some tips and ideas on how to update your kitchen hardware on a DIY Budget and LOVE it down the road.
-
Goggle… that’s my favorite website ever! Google for hardware, see what is out there, see what you like and what price you are looking at.
-
Scroll your local hardware store and even Craft store like Hobby Lobby, yes Hobby Lobby has a lot of amazing kitchen/drawer hardware and when they run a 50% off sale, not too bad of a deal
-
Check out Pinterest for some kitchen updates and hardware ideas
-
Look at your own kitchen hardware, do you like the overall look, maybe not so the color, but you like the hardware itself?
Okay, enough looking around let’s get some ideas on how to updated your kitchen on a budget…..
-
Check eBay for hardware; yes eBay… I purchased my hardware there a few years back for less than a buck a piece even for the “half moon” looking pulls. They are the same as in your hardware store but will save you a bundle and lots to choose from
-
Check out thrift stores or now with a lot of houses in foreclosure and being remodeled, see if they will let you have the kitchen hardware if they plan on replacing it
-
check Craig’s list for your local community and see if anyone has Hardware they like to get rid of
-
Paint your existing hardware..yes spray paint it.. that’s what I did.. check it out below.
I loved my hardware, I really did, I was just tired of the silver look and with our kitchen getting a “darker” more rustic makeover, I didn’t like the silver drawer pulls at all (anymore). I set off to my local hardware store to see what kind of “metal” paint they have available and how much it would set me back.
To my surprise, it wasn’t bad at all, they had a HUGE selection of Metal spray paints in all different colors and textures to choose from. I was totally surprised, well actually this was my first time ever encounter with Spray paint and I must say.. I’m LOVING it and looking to spray paint anything and everything I can get my hands on now… okay, back to the kitchen pulls.
Now check this out, took me about 10 minutes to spray paint all my hardware, let it dry over night and they look completely different in my kitchen and it only cost me like $6 or $7 a can and I have more than half the can left for other things like door knobs….
So, next time you want to change up something get a can of spray paint and paint away…. simple, easy and fairly cheap…..
You can check out Amazon.com for a HUGE selection of Spray paints and get some ideas what colors you may like… or take a trip to Walmart or your local hardware store…… Happy Spring Cleaning…
