Last month we took our Family trip to #Germany. We spent an entire month at home with Family and Friends. One of the highlights of our trip was a visit to Germany’s tallest Mountain “Die Zugspitze”. I had been there a few times when I was a little girl, but my husband and my kids had never been. My husband was born and raised in Florida, so he never ever saw snow nor a real mountain.
It was exciting and scary at the same time. The Zugspitze is HUGE… and to think that my husband that is afraid of heights would get into a gondola that would bring us to the top of the mountain was super exciting.
We slowly made our way to the top and the view was beautiful. Just breathtaking. Mind you, this was in the middle of June and it looked like the middle of December. So beautiful! The weather on top of the mountain changed from one second to the other. It was about 35F on the glacier and none of us had expected it to be that cold in June.
The glacier is 2,962 meters approx.9717 feet above sea level, the Zugspitze is the highest mountain in the country and home to three glaciers and Germany’s highest ski resort. It was just breathtaking to see all the mountains around us and we were literally in the clouds.
The kids loved it and the best part was when we drove down to the next visitor area and we found snow!! Real snow in June. My husband and my daughter were in heaven. I told you, they had never seen snow and now they could sled down the mountain. We had a blast. Spend a good 3 hrs. just sledding and playing in the snow and I did tell you that was in June!
The Zugspitze-Exhibition enhances visitors’ awareness of the historical developments of Germany’s most famous mountain. Two toboggan runs, Germany’s highest church, an igloo village and excellent mountain restaurants are reason enough for smiling faces. Just a beautiful place to visit. If you are ever in Germany, you have to make it a point to visit the Zugspitze.
In case you are heading to Europe and can squeeze the Zugspitze into your plans, do so. For more information be sure to visit their website and follow on Facebook as well as Twitter. Be prepared to bring warm clothes and shoes, it is cold up there and snowy now matter the time of the year!
What mountains have you been to or which one is your favorite?
More of our Germany adventures will follow in the days and weeks to come, there was just so much we did and the places we have seen it takes me a while to sort it all. We sure had a blast and can’t wait to head back one day. We also took our Blog friends along for the ride, if you search for #SheTravels on Twitter or Instagram you will find a lot of our adventures.

My dad loved Germany when he was over there for the army. He said it was beautiful and such a slower pace of life than what we have here.
