What a wonderful book. We love Nursery Rhymes in our house and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t. Everyone grew up with them and loves to re-tell them to their little ones. I got a copy of this book “The Green Mother Goose – Saving the World One Rhyme at a Time” by Jan Peck and David Davis; Illustrated by Carin Berger.

This is a wonderful book with old nursery rhymes pepped up to the 21st Century; like this Humpty Dumpty Rhyme; we all know the original version, let me tell you about the “green” version:
Humpty Dumpty sat on a fence.
Humpty Dumpty couldn’t make sense-
Was the world warming? He wouldn’t decide.
Now Humpty Dumpty is totally fried!
Humpty Dumpty now understands.
Humpty Dumpty is lending his hands.
Now he is wiser, and perched in a cup.
Professor Dumpty is sunny-side up!!
Now isn’t that an old tune with a new ring? I love it, I love all the new Rhymes, that are yet old Rhymes. The green twist is a wonderful addition and makes so much sense for the kids nowadays; this book got a wonderful face lift for everyone to understand. Carin Berger did a great job illustrating every page carefully with pictures for each Nursery Rhyme, yet the pages are not cluttered. Very nicely done by both the author and the illustrator. My toddler liked the rhymes and totally understood when we read each rhyme at bed time and she laughed and giggled every time. Some she already can recite on her own… we had a wonderful time reading this “The Green Mother Goose” book…. If you are looking for a fun book that has a little familiar tune, you should check out the green Mother Goose – Saving the World One Rhyme at a Time, I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as we did.

The inside of the book reads:
Mother Goose has gone green-and this playful picture book invites kids to join the fun. In these delightful “recycled” rhymes, Old Mother Hubbard shops with cloth grocery bags; Old King Coal is a better old soul, working to keep our skies smoke-free; and Hickety, Pickety is now a cage-free hen! Carin Berger’s stunning and whimsical eco-friendly collages are created from ticket stubs, newspapers, and other reused items.

That would be either A Little Princess, Beatrix Potter stories, or the wind in the willows.
