It’s Only a Dollar…Until You Add to It! Allowance Chart Calander
My Teen and my Tween both are in the “making Money” mood. We announced to them a few days ago that we are saving money for a trip to Germany. The trip isn’t going to be cheap and we would have to cut a lot of things out of our budget to come up with the HUGE amount of $$$ that we will need for a 4 week stay. We are super excited to go but I wasn’t too sure how to have the boys handle their allowance and how to keep on track. I found a great product called “Allowance Chart” …. “it’s only a Dollar… Until you add to it! This is a cool product that is designed to use allowance as a positive tool that shows children how to earn an income, finish a job to completion and become responsible.
This is what is included in the Allowance Calendar:
- 1 8.5 x 11 Allowance Chart – can be hung or placed anywhere; this allowance chart has one sheet per day ( Monday, Tuesday etc) and all the sheets are reusable and can be used like a dry eraser board.
- 4 reusable Colorful Static Cling Sheets – with over 60 Chores to choose from, or write your own with the included Dry Eraser pen. Plenty of money and happy/sad faces for providing positive feedback or encouragement.
This is how we used it. For the Teen/ Tween:
We had the Tween and Teen each, pick 4 chores a day that were a MUST in our home, like help clean the Kitchen, feed Pets, Help Put Groceries away or Help a Neighbor; they got paid depending on the Chore, the amount we agreed on, like $2 for cleaning “My” kitchen. I expect all my kids to clean their room, and no they don’t get paid for that.. Do you get paid for cleaning “your” mess? No, their mess will need to get cleaned but will not get paid, I did however pay them for cleaning the kitchen if I was tiered or for helping an elderly neighbor bring in their groceries, things like that.
They were given X amount per week for allowance, but I did ask them to come up with a percentage that they would save for the Germany trip and the remainder they are allowed to use right away. Both. The Teen and the Tween decided on 50% saving and 50% spending, which I was fine with.

We have used this system for about 2 weeks now and it works great. I love that the chart is erasable and can be changed weekly, totally flexible, yet it keeps track of everything that has to be done or was done.
I think this is a wonderful product, we LOVE it… you can never start too early to teach your little one the value of a dollar; it is debatable to pay your kids for chores or not, But in our house it works well, because now they will have their own spending money when we g on our trip and they at least know where the money came from and hopefully will think twice if they want to spend ALL of it on one item or rather find something cheaper since they worked soo hard for it; I would have given them probly the same amount of money once we leave, BUT “free’ money is always easier spend, then money you worked for…. If you have a 5+ at home, I would recommend this Allowance Chart, it can be so versatile and used for so many kids.. It defiantly will help your little one learn how to earn Money, Count your money, Donate your money ( if you make that a stipulation), valuing the money, saving their money and spending money wisely and soo much more….
The back of the chart also has a Sheet for “Goals”-“Dreams”-“Desires” so your little one can keep track of their “Wants” and see what it needs to get there… soo cool….
This would be a wonderful addition to any home school family, or anyone who wants their little ones to grow up money wise. Check out Prosperity 4 Kids for more info and you can purchase your own chart through Amazon.com and retails for $15.99.
I was provided with the product listed above for my honest review, all opinions are 100% my own and no other compensation was nor will be received.
