DIY Bedroom Makeover with Hidden Storage

A few weeks ago we decided to updated our bedroom; it was just time. After 10 years and the same look (which I loved) we needed to updated and add new paint and much needed TLC and oh yeah, bring the room to 2012…:0).

This is what my room looked like before we remodeled and another big thing I wanted incorporated was storage; we only have one small closet for both Hubby and I and no other storage in this Ranch Home, which we bought 12 years ago as a starter home. Well, the market crashed and we all know the story…so we turned this into our Forever home and we are making it our own with lots of DIY remodels…

We spend a weekend remodeling the room and check out what we came up with… lots of new closet space that is incorporated into the room…and we didn’t even loose any space at all….but gained LOTS.. I now have my very own Closet Wall…whohooo

Now doesn’t this look like Night and Day? Let me tell you how we ended up in this beautiful new room with lots of storage….. we set off to Ikea and purchase a bunch of Cabinets that would fit our wall and the Tween and Teen installed them…

We painted 3 walls a gray color and one of the walls is a blue/gray now……once all the cabinets where installed, which are Wardrobe Frames and they come in a few different sizes, I didn’t buy the doors, since we had no use for the doors and it ended up cheaper…. and I also since I had a smaller space bought one of my all time favorites the Expedite Shelf. Of course I wanted lots of accessories for my very own closet and picked all of that up at Ikea as well.

Once the “cabinets” where installed, it was time to frame the room and add some crown molding (I just love crown molding, makes a room look bigger, especially if you have the lower ceilings like I do).

I wanted a build in look for the wardrobe so hubby and the boys added a 2×4 and made it look like it is part of the wall… check it out.. kind of hard to explain.. but here is the finished project.

We painted the wood the same color as the wool to make it look like it is part of the wall… added the molding to frame out the room….We also added some molding around the cabinets to make them look more like build-ins, but wasn’t really needed.. I just wanted it….:0).

Look at ALL this room now… instead of 2 adults in a small tiny closet.. Ohhhh I’m loving it… Once we had everything attached to the wall and the molding was done it was time to decorate..I found some amazing  Cindy Crawford Curtain panels at J.C.Penney for less than $10 each.. they are AMAZING and I loved them!! –Score. I added the curtain panels to the front of my Ikea Wardrobe and check out what I have now….

LOTS and lots of room for ALL MY stuff.. I don’t have to share anymore.. SOOOOOO excited…. and it didn’t take away any space from the room at all… here is our finished project, check it out.

It is so cozy and elegant now and we invested very little for the makeover, and I know this will be a nice and quiet place I will be found many days from now on……

Happy DIY’ing …..

Melanie,

I am sooooooooooo impressed! It is beautiful. I also live in a small ranch with low ceilings. I do however have a separate closet, one wall is eaten up with 2 bifold door closets. Very tiny bedroom, one path to walk around the bed. I bet your boys are very proud of their accomplishment also! Love it.

Hidden storage is the best! You can never have too much!

Looks like some hard work, but it sure paid off. We updated our bedroom after about a decade also but with just paint and window dressings. Good job, I bet you are enjoying it and will for a long time.

Thanks so much, I’m remodelling my sewing/craft room and you just put up what I need. I love the Frames with shelves. Perfect, I can get one for my material/working projects and one for my crafty stuff. The bedroom looks fantastic, I have to remember this one if we ever finish and get to do something in our bedroom.
