It’s 2016! Wow, did I really say that? I’m excited for the new year, even though it seems like it got here way too fast. Where did 2015 go? This year I’m already off to a good start. I usually don’t make New Year’s resolutions or set goals, but this year I decided to take a different spin to resolutions and instead I made it a commitment to make small changes on a daily, weekly or monthly basis that I know I can achieve to get me to a better “Me” and “Us” by the end (do I dare to say it, cause we all know once we blink we will be there) 2016.
Everyone has that resolution to get fit, maybe start working out and eating better. Well, mine is somewhat in line with that but I will take it one day at a time. New Year’s morning I woke up and dished up a powerful smoothie for breakfast, took me well, 5 minutes to prepare and everyone was full of energy. One little step to a better us in a big way.
I planned ahead, I knew I wanted to dish up a Smoothie come New Year’s Day morning so during my weekly Walmart trips I picked up all the fresh veggies, fruit, the Jif™ Peanut Powder for some extra protein and the Silk Almond Milk. Simple as that and really wasn’t much extra effort to get the family into a better year.
I was really excited about the one new product we kicked our year off with, the Jif™ Peanut Powder it is made from just one ingredient, fresh roasted peanuts. Has no added sugar or salt like competitors, just a simple good product for many dishes in the house. Did you know that Jif™ Peanut Powder has the same amount of nourishing protein as traditional peanut butter, but with 85% less fat? I think it’s the perfect way to add delicious peanut taste to smoothies, baking, breakfast and more, with less calories and sugar, win win for the entire family.

Now that we discussed how easy a powerful breakfast can be and in the same amount of time you could prepare a PB&J, I think its time to check out my delicious Smoothie creation that had my 8 year old saying “Not Bad, Not bad at all mom. Quit delicious, could you make this every morning?” I also overheard the teenagers talking in their room how awesome the peanut flavor was in mix of all the fresh fruit & veggies, even though they aren’t a fan of Kale, this was delicious breakfast. A mom just smiles, enjoys and walks away.
Now without further ado, here is my “Piña Kaleado Power Smoothie”.

Have I promised you too much? It took seconds to toss everything, yes, everything into the blender. Hit the blend button and wait 2-3 minutes till your consistency was achieved. If you like your smoothie a little thinner, add a few extra drops of Almond Milk, if you like it a little thicker, add extra frozen fruit or ice if you like. I love using fruit as a thickener and eliminate using ice if I can because I hate when my drinks water down, but totally up to your preference.
You can use pretty much any flavor combination that you like or dare to try. Trust me, step out of your comfort zone and try the spinach, the carrots or even ginger in your smoothie, paired with sweet fruit, ripe bananas or delicious berries it will be delicious new way to say hello to every new day. Best part, it’s all fresh and you know what ingredients are part of your breakfast.

Make it a good year this year now that I have breakfast mastered thanks to a little help from Jif™ Peanut Powder, I’m off to take the other small step changes that I’m trying to implement like donating items from each room once a month, more home cooked meals, eliminating clutter one room at a time, one day at a time. Spending more quality time with the family and learning how to leave things unfinished are some of the small changes that will end up in a big way in the end.
See, a new year and a new you doesn’t have to be an overwhelming task, a big push that gets you in the same old’ rot within days, it can be fun, it can be interesting and you can make it last all year long and feel good about how you made it through 2016.

How are you changing your ways this year? Would love to hear it and remember baby steps, don’t try to change the world in one day, share some of your breakfast or lunch ideas and let me know if Jif™ Peanut Powder may have a spot in the recipe to get you a little extra protein.
Happy New year to you and yours, make this the best year yet!!

I’m heading back to the gym after a 2 month hiatus due to surgery. I feel like I”m starting at square one again, but I think adding protein packed smoothie recipes like this may help get me back to where I was fitness-wise last Fall! Thanks for sharing this recipe! (client)
