Saturday Fun: Make your Own Bubbles & Make them Bounce

March 5, 2011 By Melanie Roberts 6 Comments

My Friend Crystal over at Surviving a Teacher Salary had a cool experiment the other day and I just had to have her write  a guest post here and share this with my readers. This is such a cool experiment… so grab the kids and get ready for some fun…. This is too cool…..!!!!

A favorite of all kids is bubbles- and what better what to teach them about bubbles than to let them actually make their own!! It’s very simply (although can be messy!) to make.

Materials Needed:
6 cups of water
4 cups of liquid detergent
1 cup corn syrup

Combine all ingredients together in a bucket and let it sit for the day. A good idea is to mix it first thing in the morning, and then tell the kids they can use them after school or after dinner.
Another experiment you can try requires also having dry ice. If you blow bubbles onto the dry ice they will bounce around above the dry ice because of the carbon dioxide layer formed. You can see below in the video the reaction. If you happen to get a bubble to stick to the dry ice, it will actually freeze over and can be picked up!

I wonder if this would also work with a no-sting baby shampoo so it won’t sting their eyes?

I had no idea corn syrup was used to make bubbles. My kids will love this. I always find the store bought bubbles never really work.
