Sunday Coupon Class – How to stockpile

March 13, 2011 By Melanie Roberts 6 Comments

Stockpile your products….

You see me buy weird things each week… one week there is Pasta Sauce on Sale and another week there is Pasta on sale. I don’t ever go on a regular shopping trip, you know… the one you buy everything for that week. From Pasta Sauce to Bread and anything else you may need for supper or snacks that week…. That is the “old” and expensive way of shopping… the NEW way of shopping is to stockpile your groceries.

Let me explain what “Stockpile” means… pretty much you will end up with your own personal grocery warehouse… sounds funny and probly weird.. BUT… this will work and it will save you a TON of money in the long run; it also will help you family in case of any economy job loss or some other unforeseen expenses that you didn’t budget for… your family will ALWAYS have food in the house and you paid a lot less than a “regular” shopper would have paid for all that.. to be honest about 75% less on an average.

I hear people all the time in line behind me, or when they know I stockpile…. “Why would someone need 20 cans of Tomatoes?” or “Why would you ever need 10 tubes of toothpaste?” Do I need all that TODAY?? no but it is saving me money in the long run…

Let me tell you why.. if you have a family of 4, how many tubes of toothpaste are you using a year?? I would guess about 12, one Tube a month… so if you are going to Publix each month to get your toothpaste, one month you pay $4 one month you pay $3 it’s always different, let’s say you will pay $3 on an average for 12 Tubes of Toothpaste a year ends up $36 for the entire year of toothpaste…. BUT if today there is a sale for the toothpaste that you use anyway and there is a coupon making that toothpaste FREE… why wouldn’t you buy enough to last you for the year and save $36 by not buying tooth paste every month… does that make sense?

The same thing with anything else you need, you buy it when there is a sale and buy enough to get your family through for anywhere 3-24 month; if you are starting out I would suggest have a 3 month goal of food on hand.

The reason I say 3 month is:

  • Usually a sale comes around every 3 month and you can stock up
  • You will see how much your family actually will eat giving you an idea to buy more of Canned tomatoes and less of Tomato sauce… hope you get the idea.

Stockpiling is a big money savings tip, that is how I can get my groceries down to 75% off the retail price, because I only buy what is on sale and what is the best rock bottom deal…

If you are a family of 2 of course you would stockpile less than a family of 5….

Check out some of our stock piles in the house, we don’t have much room in our house so every little space is used to hold the stockpile…. I know the products look like I have a warehouse, but to be honest I got all for 75% off the retail price and this will last my family 6+ month if not longer…

If you have any questions, please e-mail or message me….

I like this idea of stock piling. As a professional organizer, I always say, “buy only what you need.” But this is a great way of saving money in the long run. I think the key is to do your math. Like you said, if you buy 12 tubes of toothpaste a year, don’t stock pile more than that. And keep like things together in the pantry so you don’t go over buying something you already have. I see people doing this all the time. Then some food goes bad. With this method you might be able to skip a week of foodshopping and not go hungry. I like that too. Thanks for giving me a new way of looking things.

I think the saving part of this sounds great, but I don’t have ANY storage space. Does lack of storage make this impossible for me?
