It’s almost back to school time for us here in Central Florida and with my Teen starting 10th grade ( wow… did I just say 10th grade?? OMG.. time to freak out) and the Tween starting 6th grade and even the Toddler is leaving the nest, she will be starting Pre-K at our Elementary school this year, I thought it would be a good idea to share some of our Healthy Back to School tips and see if you have any to add.
-
Get lots of rest. This is a big one, get the little ones to bed early, if they aren’t tired let them lay in bed and maybe read a book for 30 minutes, but they need to start resting to get into the routine of going to bed earlier and getting plenty of ZZZZZ’s for their long days.
-
Lots of Fruit & Veggies; Pack a lot of fruit and veggies into your little ones lunch to keep them going through the school day; that will keep them more alert and ready to learn.
-
Less sugar; trust me, you don’t want to fill them up on anything sugar weather it be for their school day or night time. try to cut out as much sugar as possible. Your little ones will thank you down the road.
-
Get a Physical & Shots. Each year in time for back to school we take the kids to their pediatrician for their back to school physicals, sport physicals and any shots they may need. It is an easy reminder for me and that starts the school year of on a healthy note with tips from a professional as well

-
Take a trip to the dentist; just like the pediatrician, make an appointment for your dentist so your little one will have a happy and healthy smile throughout their school year. Again, this is also an easy reminder for mom. Back to school time = Dentist and Dr. time!!
-
Set a routine; this is a big one in our home. Get the kids on a schedule from wake up to bed time. This will defiantly make your morning run smoothly and also get the kids to bed on time a lot easier.
-
Happy Kids = Happy Mom; let the kids pick out their own backbags, clothing (unless you have Uniform), shoes and anything else to make them more comfortable and proud to be going back to school. If your little one is happy, so is mom, and it will make getting up in the morning that much easier if kids are excited.
-
Breakfast; this is another HUGE thing in the Crazy Mom’s house, each kid needs to have breakfast. Let your little ones pick something they like and that’s easy to fix in the morning, but be sure no one leaves the house without a cup of Milk or Juice and something to eat!
-
Less TV time: Turn the TV off and spend some quality time with your kids. That let’s the kids wind down from a busy day and mom and dad get to be part of their little ones day and hear all the fun things they’ve done while away. Family time is very important, so skip the TV and let’s talk

This really isn’t a tip to send your little ones back to school, BUT give them a BIG HUG before they leave. Tell them you love them and watch that smile show up on their faces. Be sure to remind them that you are there for them!!!!
Now, what is your tip on how to send your little ones back to school? What grades are yours going in this year? I can’t wait to hear your stories and get in on the conversation.

Mine is starting high school this year. I understand your feelings on that.
I am genuinely sad and already wishing I had a do over on his entire life.

Ohhh.. I know.. I really don’t wish for a “do over”… other then that I want to spend the time with him all over again 🙂 it’s soo strange to see him so grown up already, he was just a little 8lb thing not too long ago….good luck with your little one and if you ever need to chat or give ideas and tips on a Teen, we are here….:0)

My 12 year old started the 7th grade this morning! We follow those 10 tips that you mentioned already! And make sure that you have a current shot record from the pediatrician to take to your child’s school before registration! And BTW, we’re in Central FL, too!

Our son started the 7th grade today over in our county! I made sure that he ate cereal this morning, instead of his usual favorite, pop tarts.
