My office makeover #DIY project is finally done

April 25, 2013 By Melanie Roberts 8 Comments

It took us about 3 maybe 4 weeks to get our office finished. I know, I’m not done a 100% yet, still want to hang up pictures, but don’t know what kind and I rather wait instead of cluttering it all up,till I have an idea on what I want. I also need some more decorations and storage space, but again, all with time. I rather come up with the idea as I go along and add it to the space at the time.

Check out, this is what our office was before, unfortunately I didn’t take pictures of the before, before, my husband cleaned it out too quick, so this is all I have.

This room ages ago, was a back porch. When Princess came along I had to give way for my home office and she took over my space. All I had left was to re-model the back porch into a room that would work for my office and kids work as well as a play room. Mind you, the room is not big at all, about 12×10 with lots of windows and doors. Very little Wall room. I had this HUGE desk in here that took most of the room and always made me feel cluttered.

Now granted, when I bough this desk years ago, I was in my bigger office (the pic is off the old office with lots of room…ahhhhhhh) and I had lots of room and loved the desk. but as families grow and houses get smaller, the desk was just crushing my little make shift office in the back. So the desk was migrating to my Mother in law’s scrapbook room to make room for my new, cleaner, simpler office.

We already had tile floor in the office, looking at the pictures it looked pretty good and you may say “Why in the world did you change it”. It was a pain to clean. The tile was never sealed, apparently it was some kind of Italian tile and the top pores are not sealed, who knows. But with dogs and kids running in and out all day, it was a pain to keep clean. The dirt that stuck to this floor every week drove me crazy. it had to go. We didn’t pull it out, we just laid wood laminate right on top. Took hubby about 4 hours one morning and we had new floors.

Adding new Laminate to your space will make a big difference. Price wise wasn’t bad either, you can find laminate as low as $0.49 a square foot; very durable and cost affective to update a room that way. Boy and update it did my room, that’s for sure.

After the floor was in we painted and installed our desk. Check out the after pictures of all our remodel; it sure was a long one, very limited budget but we pulled it off and it looks like a total different room. Loving my Orange an Gray colors and if I like to change the orange out, a simple task. Gray goes well with just about anything and well, painting walls can be done quickly, too.

Where did you get that center shelf? (The white one that’s in both the before and after pictures.) I’m really thinking about something like that for our living room.
