Book Review & Giveaway: Kristin and the Santa Secret

December 23, 2010 By Melanie Roberts

Kristin and the Santa Secret

I bet your little one has lots of questions about Santa and is Santa real? I know my little ones know Santa is real, simple because in my house we have a rule “If you don’t believe you won’t receive”. So even if the older one knows that I buy the presents and I’m the one writing the notes from Santa, he also knows not to tell the little ones and never ever to stop believing. Believing is a big part of Christmas in our house.

I was asked to review  “Kristin and the Santa Secret, by Christopher Fengolio; and I fell in love with it. It is a wonderful story about a little girl who also wants to know ” Mom, Dad…. is Santa Real?” How do parents react when our little ones ask this question.. what is the right answer? This book has a wonderful way of telling a heartwarming poem that gives parents the faith-filed words and a simple method to help answer the question asked by children every Christmas: “Is Santa Real?”

Kristin is a very curious girl who just can’t stop thinking about Santa Claus.

Can you tell me why Santa gets dressed all in red?
Does he eat healthy meals? Is he watching his weight?
Does he know to watch out for the planes overhead?
Will he take all the cookies we put on the plate?

Kristin’s parents understand that as she grows up, her belief in Santa Claus will change. So before their daughter learns more about Santa on the playground, her parents sit beside her and teach her the true meaning of Christmas.

With a mixture of wonder, excitement and dread,
Kristin nervously sits on the edge of their bed.
Then the door is locked tightly so brothers won’t hear
The discussion ‘bout Santa and secrets so dear.
I love this story and the pictures in this book. I think this book would be a wonderful addition to your Christmas book collection and be a great tradition to start every Christmas with your little ones. The author did a wonderful job wonderful job of ushering young people into an adult understanding, while still protecting the magic of Christmas.
The author Christopher Fenoglio graciously offered one of my readers a copy of this book, if you want to buy your own copy you can go HERE it sells for $9.95 per copy or on Amazon.com
P.s . Is Santa Real?…… The answer can be found within…..

We haven’t started any NEW traditions this year (unless you count my grandson’s giving a girlfriend a present for the first time…lol) but one of our favorites is that I hide the CHRISTMAS PICKLE ornament on our tree and the grandkids try to find it. Each one is given a chance (since they are still so young) and a small gift is given. Maybe when they are older we will have a competition…or maybe not. I also spend a day making & decorating Christmas cookies with the kids to share with family & friends. Thanks for the opportunity to win this book which I am sure my grandkids would enjoy.

Hmmmm…..new traditions……I can’t think of any, but we have something we started when our daughter was in kindergarten. We have a small cabinet with 24 doors and we fill it with notes about activities for our family to do, little treats, or notes and they are all from the Advent Angel. Our daughter is now in 4th grade and she believes with all her heart! And of course, Santa is real too!

I would love to win and read this to my grandchildren, because my daughter’s name is Kristin! Our new tradition this year was to intersperse the reading of the Christmas story from the Bible with our gift opening and for the children and grandchildren to receive three presents – each one representing one of the wisemen’s gifts.
    Thanks for the opportunity!
    Blessings,
    Ava
