Book Review Wednesday & Giveaway : “busy with Bugs”

I revived a book in the mail the other day called Busy with Bugs written by Toni Albert and Illustrated by Margaret Brandt.

This Best Books Award winner sure deserves this title. It is a wonderful book with 160 extremely interesting things to do with bugs.

If your little ones, especially boys, are anything like mine, they are obsessed with bugs. I haven’t seen any little boy that doesn’t like bugs… My kids are fascinated by them and want to learn anything and everything they can. This book does just that, it has over 60 colorful pages about any bug you ever wanted to learn, or know more about.

This book starts off to tell you about Bugs and the Environment, how to collect bugs, catching bugs and even how to keep a bug. I could go on and on about this book, there is really everything you ever needed to know about a bug from how they grow, to their different shapes and all their disguises. I’m totally mesmerized by this book. I’m not a bug person but I have been reading this book for a few days now and it gets more interesting the longer I read it.

Did you know that you can keep a ladybug in a jar for a week if you care for it carefully? Or how about looking for a frog with a  glowing throat… you know what happened to him?? He ate too many fireflies… I was laughing at that one and so wished we had fireflies here in Florida so I could see glowing frogs.. but that was just too cool.

This is a wonderful book, a great teaching tool for anyone  homeschooling, or even school teachers, the book is just amazing. We loved the pictures and the knowledge in the book is phenomenal. This is a MUST have in every home, I know we will go back many times for years to come and read up on a bug that we found or how to keep that Pill bug alive.

  27. I have a very scientifically minded grandson, and he’s been that way since a very young age. Now that he is in second grade and can read for himself, and his interest has only grown more. On our last visit to the zoo, when given a choice of toys at the gift store, he wanted a book on animals. This bug book would be perfect for him. That’s why I’d like to win.
