Cat in the Hat–A-Thon DVD ALERT & {Giveaway} #cithathon

As most of you know I’m part of a VIP PBS Blogger program and we get the scoop on all the cool and new things that are on the horizon for PBS. I can tell you this will be an exciting adventure and you are along for the ride.

This week marks what would have been Dr. Seuss’ 108^th birthday, as well as the opening for the highly anticipated animated big-screen debut of one the author’s most favored books, The Lorax.

Dr. Seuss has been entertaining readers for generations.  His bright and exotic illustrations tantalize the mind and the easy-to-read rhymes are usually life lessons disguised as fun—and sometimes mischievous—adventures.  With this being such a Seuss-centric week, the Brooke Jackman Foundation has compiled a list of the Top 5 Seuss books that are more than meets the eye, stories that also teach children how to handle challenging situations :

• The Lorax –Teaches children the need to be environmentally conscious
• Oh, The Places You’ll Go – Teaches children how to remain positive when faced with adversity
• The Cat in the Hat – Teaches children about responsibility and honesty
• I Can Read with My Eyes Shut! –Teaches children that reading is a useful tool to acquire knowledge
• And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street – Teaches children to be imaginative

Have you also heard of the THE CAT IN THE HAT-A-THON? It will be a fun day on March 2nd; set your DVR there will be lots of Cat in the Hat (check local listings).

They will feature two brand new episodes, “Seasons – Spring and Summer/Fall and Winter,” which takes the Cat, Nick and Sally on a journey through the four seasons, and “When I Grow Up/Doing It Differently,” in which Nick and Sally explore what it means to grow up and learn that trying a different approach can sometimes be the best way to solve a problem. The marathon will also include encore presentations of “Hooray for Hair/Ice Is Nice” and “Chasing Rainbows/Follow the Prints.”
