Its movie time at our house and if you are a regular reader, you know we love to dress up our movie time a little… Yeah… just a tiny bit. It’s so much fun to see the kids hang out and enjoy a few snacks while watching the latest and greatest movie or an old time favorite. Do you ever entertain or host movie themed parties for your family and maybe friends?
With the Oscars coming up, my family and I reflected on some great movies as well as some not so good ones and we decided that our favorite movie for last year was Captain America ~ Winter Soldier. My Teens loved the movie and have been big super hero fans ever since they were little, so this was not a big surprise to me. The year before we all awed and ohhhed over Frozen and this year the boys got their turn.
Let me show you how easy it is to entertain and create a super fun, affordable and simple snack bar. While I ran over to my local World Market the other day to check on the latest and greatest items… Gosh I just love that store, I could move in there and never leave. Have you ever shopped at your World market or maybe even online? It sure breaks my bank, but I love all their entertaining essentials and had to pick up a few items for my Captain America movie party.
I picked up these super cool cake pop pan that is totally awesome and so simple to make some cake pops for you and your family, the red Velvet mix from Mam Papaul’s is our favorite, just prepare it per directions on the box, fill the cake pop pan, bake and dip in white melted chocolate, sprinkle with red, white & blue sprinkles and voila, your Captain America cake pops are done, can it be any easier than that?
I also picked up some strawberries at my local farmers market, dipped them in melted white chocolate morsels, all I do is add the chocolate morsels with a few spoon full of oil, to a microwave safe dish, heat for about 45 seconds and stir well. It’s perfect to dip your Strawberries or even the pretzels I picked up at World Market, my kids like to crunch on things while watching a movie, do yours, too?
This is what you need for the dipped Chocolate Strawberries and Chocolate Pretzels:
-
Fresh, very cold Strawberries
-
White chocolate morsels
-
a few spoonful of oil
-
sprinkles (red, white and blue to stay true to our theme)
This is how to make your chocolate dipped Strawberries & Pretzels:
-
Melt your chocolate morsels in a bowl, add the oil and put in microwave for about 45 seconds, stir frequently till it is smooth.
-
Take your pretzels or Strawberries, dip in the chocolate, add sprinkles and place on wax paper to cool off
-
Serve in fun containers or cake plates
This was one of the first times I was able to dip my strawberries in chocolate and them look good, guess what the secret was… put your strawberries in the freezer for 10-15 minutes just long enough for them to be really really cold, not frozen, just cold and the chocolate will get hard quickly and you won’t have a mess in your kitchen. It worked so well for me, you need to try this.
You have to have Popcorn at any movie party, but sometimes just the blain old popcorn can get boring, I loved the wide variety of nuts and fruits at my local World Market, it made it super easy to pick up snack items that I could mix with the popcorn. Trail mix popcorn is what we ended up with and the kids loved it and it was soooo simple. Just pick up your favorite snacks, sweets, nuts and fruits along with your favorite Popcorn, mix it all in a bowl, drizzle chocolate over and you have yourself a gourmet movie popcorn. Soo delicious.
This is what you need for your gourmet movie popcorn:
-
Popcorn of your choice from World Market, I like to pick up the bags that are already ready to go.
-
Dried fruit like pineapple, mango or banana chips
-
nuts like cashews, peanuts or almonds
-
chocolate chip morsels
This is how to make your gourmet movie popcorn:
-
Mix all of your ingredients in a large mixing bowl, take some chocolate morsels add to a plastic baggie, add a few spoonful of oil, place in microwave for about 20-45 seconds, stir well and drizzle over your popcorn, serve in fun Popcorn containers.
Every good party has to have drinks, right? I love mixing fruit juice with a little seltzer water and add vanilla ice cream, it gives it that little extra, makes it feel special and the juice can be adjusted to any party and your need. Trust me, you will love it. The kids will love the fizz on top and ask for seconds, I’m sure. This time I picked up the Guava & Strawberry Juice along with the mineral water and it was a hit at my party, super simple and only takes minutes to mix. To make it a little extra special, I dipped the glass in lemon juice and then in blue & red sprinkles according to your movie theme colors, what a show stopper the drinks were.
This is what you need for the Captain America fruit Juice Moktail:
- Fruit of the Nile Strawberry Guava Nectar
- Sparkling Water
- Scoop of vanilla Ice Cream
This is how to make the Captain America Fruit Juice Moktail:
- Fill the fruit juice in your cup first, about 1/2 way full
- Add the Sparkling water till about 3/4 full
- drop in a scoop of vanilla ice cream
- if you like to be really fancy, before filling your glass take lemon juice and dip your glass in it, dip glass in blue sprinkles …. Serve… enjoy
